We’re looking for a Mechanical Designer who is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to grow with our team.
Role Overview
The Mechanical Designer will play a key role in supporting Optimum’s fabrication and ASME pressure vessel projects. This individual will maintain and improve existing designs, support the production team with accurate and clear drawings, contribute to sales and project management efforts, and help shape a positive, growth-oriented company culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn, manage, and update Optimum’s existing housing, tank, and pressure vessel designs with accurate Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and fabrication clarity.
  • Leverage knowledge from the fabrication team to improve drawing clarity and accuracy.
  • Develop proficiency in ASME pressure vessel design, documentation, and inspection requirements.
  • Support sales efforts with design input, including custom system designs and vendor coordination.
  • Assist with project management tasks for ASME projects (scheduling, documentation, inspections, and milestone tracking).
  • Collaborate with shop and fabrication teams to resolve design questions and ensure production accuracy.
  • Contribute to building a strong, collaborative company culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and 2D AutoCAD.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and fabrication detailing.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Effective communication skills with customers, vendors, and fabrication teams.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ASME pressure vessel standards (or similar certifications).
  • Experience designing vessels, tanks, and piping components for fluid processing systems.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and ERP systems (Microsoft 365 a plus).
  • Hands-on experience in a metal fabrication or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of welding techniques and weld callout symbols for shop drawings.
  • Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, and self-motivation.
  • Experience coordinating design work with machinists and skilled craftsmen.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Strong math skills (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and fraction conversions).
  • Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings and tape measurements.
  • Comfortable troubleshooting and making informed technical decisions.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb stairs, stoop, or kneel as required.
  • Ability to sit/stand at a workstation for extended periods.
  • Work occurs in a fabrication shop environment with variable noise levels.
  • Must follow Optimum Filter’s safety protocols.
