As a small but growing team, this is a unique opportunity to directly shape the future of mechanical engineering at Actus Advanced Systems.
You’ll be instrumental in taking design projects from concept through production. You will be hands-on every step of the way, from refining system requirements and creating detailed designs to fabricating custom components and assembling full-scale prototypes. Our high bay shop in Austin, TX, provides dedicated space and resources for developing, building, and rigorously testing solutions from the component level to the full-scale integrated system.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience designing, analyzing, and building mechanical structures and/or mechanisms

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Contributed to a fast-paced team environment that required resourcefulness, adaptability, and an entrepreneurial mindset to meet tight time and budget constraints
  • Proficient in advanced CAD tools, including experience with integrated analysis packages
  • Solid understanding of Design-for-Manufacturability (DFM) principles and familiarity with various manufacturing processes such as casting, machining, and composite fabrication
  • Experience with components such as winches, actuators, latches, motors, etc
  • Skilled in using a diverse range of tools for building and fabrication
  • Working directly with vendors and partners on collaborative custom solutions
  • Experience generating fabrication drawings per GD&T requirements
  • Proficient in analyzing and interpreting test data, including thermal and vibration testing
  • Ability to take a product from concept through to production with little supervision
  • Manage development schedules, vendors, budgets, and project deliverables
  • 1+ year of leading people in a professional setting or within a club, team, or organization

Responsibilities
  • Develop and own design concepts from a clean sheet through to full production.
  • Collaborate across disciplines (e.g. electrical engineering) to create designs optimized for size, weight, power, and cost.
  • Evolve conceptual designs into fully detailed CAD models, ensuring components and assemblies are ready for manufacturing.
  • Perform Structural analysis on designs, leveraging consultant resources as needed, to ensure structural integrity and compliance with requirements.
  • Use fundamental engineering calculations to quickly evaluate and iterate on your designs.
  • Validate your work by building and testing development articles.
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineers and technicians to refine and enhance your designs.
