QUALIFICATION AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and/or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of professional work experience
  • Conceptual knowledge of engineering principles and practices
  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools
  • Ability to identify root cause and develop action plans to solve issues
  • Analytical mind that can implement internal testing/validation procedures where standards don’t exist
  • Ability to articulate mechanical concepts, problems, and opportunities
  • Strong understanding of cost implications with various designs or proposed manufacturing methods
  • Able to travel up to 20% domestic and international

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong working knowledge of F.E.A. and D.F.M.
  • Packaging testing and development experience of liquid containers and corrugate
  • Familiarity with applying and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Working knowledge of common plastic forming processes and tooling design
  • Experience managing intellectual property and patent process
Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the mechanical design, function, and development of new items and improving existing items. This Mechanical Engineer will manage/implement all: specification writing, technical drawings, B.O.M., quality inspection criteria, and validation testing of durable goods and packaging. Ideally, this candidate will bring a keen eye for VA/VE, cost containment, and product enhancement opportunities. This person will need to be available to travel domestically and internationally periodically to ensure the successful start of production, expedite development timelines, and ensure a quality design is delivered from manufacturing partners. This person will oversee, enhance, validate, and approve designs in collaboration with engineering teams from manufacturing partners. The Mechanical Engineer is also responsible for contributing to a positive work environment.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Write specifications for durable goods and packaging
  • Manage technical drawings and B.O.M. while documenting revisions
  • Implement and overhaul quality inspection criteria checklists throughout entire product lifecycle
  • Identify, lead, and execute VA/VE initiatives on durable goods and packaging
  • Implement internal test methods where standardized tests don’t exist to simulate lifecycle of product
  • Identify proper test methods to validate product design during all phases of development and ongoing quality inspections
  • Collaborate, monitor, and validate designs with manufacturing partners
  • Monitor all owned tooling at manufacturing partners
  • Track tooling life
  • Oversee tooling modifications, duplications, and cavities to ensure they are within tolerance
  • Implement Change Request Orders
  • Evaluate tolerance stack ups of assemblies and confirm GD&T of technical drawings
  • Manage and report out on timelines of owned projects
  • Evaluate performance of samples, document findings, and drive corrective actions as needed
  • Support or oversee prototyping needs
  • Participate in start of productions at manufacturing locations for durable goods and packaging
  • Effectively collaborate cross functionally among multiple departments, including Research & Development, Product Management, Marketing, and Sales
  • Able and willing to work necessary hours to meet all project deadlines, travel when necessary
