The ideal candidate will have experience designing and building mechanical and basic electrical systems. The ideal candidate will have a history of completing successful mechanical designs through analysis, design, and hands-on testing. Requirements Designing mechanical enclosures and structures, based on design requirements, to allow for reliable image capture in demanding environments (hot and cold temperatures, vibration, water and dust). Select system components such as cameras, optics, and lighting, for use in machine vision systems, based on thorough evaluation and hands-on testing. Performing engineering assessments of the design and production of mechanical, electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical systems. Creating engineering documentation such as mechanical drawings, bills of material, and block diagrams to meet internal and external commitments. Through lab-based experiments, develop imaging techniques to optimize the image quality of defects, features, and objects of interest. Transitioning designs from prototype to production. Creating component testing and product validation and verification plans to ensure customer and internal requirements are met. Work with the procurement team to build and maintain relationships with key vendors. Working with assembly technicians to build prototypes and custom systems. Provide trouble shooting and technical support for production and field service teams. Diagnosing and resolving problems with field deployed equipment. Conduct cost/benefit trade-off analysis and feasibility studies. Required Qualifications and Skills A solid foundation in mechanical engineering fundamentals of component design, stress/strain analysis, thermal design and analysis. An understanding of the basics of electrical engineering, electrical design, and fabrication. An aptitude for working in a highly collaborative environment were giving and receiving constructive feedback is expected and encouraged. Experience using CAD to design machined, sheet metal, and welded parts. SolidWorks preferred. An understanding of the engineering process whereby customer needs are translated into product specifications which guide designs and test methods. Understanding of system design whereby the balance of various disciplines must work in harmony. Solid prototype fabrication skills with a keen understanding of various fabrication methods. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient with MS Office products: Word, Power Point, Excel. Ability to travel as required (
