The Mechanical Improvement Engineer is responsible of leading all the machine improvement projects focusing mostly on the mechanical improvements, working together with a multidisciplinary group, leading the group to the correct decision, analyzing the feasibility, cost, complexity, impact and other variables.
The Mechanical Improvement Engineer must analyze technical data of the machines, scrap, speed, time between failures, availability, etc., to propose solutions or improvements to reduce process variation, improve process capabilities and optimize process performance throughout machine improvements, together with a multidisciplinary team. After analyzing all data, this person should present the project to the management, looking for approval.
After the project has been approved, he/she will be responsible of designing all the mechanical improvements, place the purchase order of all the needed components and/or raw material, track the manufacturing process, find suppliers, provide technical guidance to the support technicians, lead the dismantling/assembly process and provide technical drawings/diagrams for the technicians when needed.
The Improvement Engineer will open the Change Request (CR) or the Engineering Change Order and will make sure that all tasks related to this improvement are handled by the people responsible and are closed on time to stick to the promised timeframe. Every improvement must include a handover folder with all the technical data, technical justification, before and after status, technical drawings/diagrams (fully approved in EPDM) and a memory record, that will be handed over to the specific area of improvement. In case of a machine improvement, it will be attached as part of a modification and this change will be tracked in the machine folder in EPDM.
He/She will be responsible for designing new equipment, machines, tools or processes, as well as developing detailed procedures to outline the operation of the new tools or implementation of the new processes.
The Mechanical Engineer can also support the Operations Department in resolving critical issues that require additional technical expertise not available within their team. The objective is that correct and timely production remains the top priority for everyone in COLOPLAST, as that, he/she can have a relevant role in the Ramp-Up process whenever it is needed.
In the transfer process, he/she will work closely with the Transfer Team to ensure he/she will be able to roll out all the machine improvements or technical support once the machine arrives at FEL Site.
Responsibilities
Develop machine improvement initiatives to reduce process variation, improve process capabilities and optimize process performance
Define and track the KPIs of the improvement processes and define each improvement project with a clear identification of stakeholders and deliverables
Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan
Drive troubleshooting and crisis situations to get the project back on track when needed
Perform the risks analysis & reporting, define and follow mitigation actions.
Provide project updates on a consistent basis to various stakeholders about strategy, adjustments, and progress
Proper coordination between departments to make sure all improvement tasks will not interfere with the regular production
Review and update machine procedures and documents based on project requirements
Train and guide resources as needed
Draw machine parts and layouts using appropriate software (Autocad and solidworks)
Manage contracts with vendors and suppliers by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables
Be part of the Ramp-Up task force whenever is needed
Represent the Local Operations Development team in all training tasks outside the country, if required
Utilize industry best practices, techniques, and standards throughout entire project execution
Take responsibility for those safety aspects identified for the given position
Essential qualifications
Degree in Mechanical Engineer
Have 3-4 years of work experience in similar position
Proficient in Autocad and Solidworks, is a must
Familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies and best practices
Project Management experience, is a plus
Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Have strong teamwork abilities and communication skills
Good communication skills, both written and oral in English Level: B2 – Intermediate level (base on the scale of the Common European Framework)
Be able to read and interpret technical drawings (electrical, mechanical)
Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Be flexible and be able to deal with stress periods
Self-motivated and a genuine interest in improving processes and internal customer relationships
Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions
Able to work well independently and be adaptable/flexible with team members
Able to accomplish broad and complex assignments.
Able to prepare technical reports for documenting issues/changes to equipment
Ability to multi-task and organize efficiently and effectively
Able to operate power/hand tools
Deep understanding of fine adjustments and tolerances
Deep knowledge of mechanical measuring tools and processes
Provides and develops solutions to problems of limited scope
Adhere to company safety policies (LOTO, Confined Space, Fall protection, etc).
Recurrent travelling during the Training Period (up to some consecutive weeks).
Long term travels expected to up to 10-15 days maximum.
