Position: Mechanical Engineer Co-op Location: Birmingham, AL Job Type: Onsite Reports to: Engineering Manager Department: North American Operations Position Purpose: We are seeking a self-motivated Mechanical Engineer with demonstrated experience in the automotive and conveyance industries. The ideal candidate will have a proven history of delivering projects successfully and on time. To thrive in this role, the Mechanical Engineer must stay current with industry developments--both within and beyond their discipline--and continuously seek opportunities to upskill. The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously is essential to success.   Key responsibilities include:   · Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure project deadlines are met · Liaising with external stakeholders and attending project meetings · Utilizing industry-standard software to develop detailed mechanical designs · Ensuring all projects are completed within budget and time constraints   Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   · Demonstrates the values and business principles of Leadec. · Works safely at all times. · Analyzing problems and coming up with designs to solve them. · Develop designs for tooling, test equipment and machinery related to both production and developmental products. Includes development of specifications, design criteria and drawings. · Networking and collaborating with other engineers and professionals. · Support field crews in verifying final installation is per design and specifications. · Plans, conducts, technically directs, and evaluates projects or tasks, requiring coordination of the efforts of engineers and technical support staff. · Working within the budget to deliver safe and efficient products on time. · Works with vendors to produce tooling and associated hardware. · Integrates hardware into production & research/development cycles. · Work with customers and technical personnel to ensure requirements are met in production. Sets up prototype equipment and uses experimental materials to test theories/designs developed. · Discusses progress and interim findings at monthly technical review meetings. Continues with project in original concept, or modifies direction based on commentary and decision of technical review committee. · Performs specialized programming, design, or analysis of tasks under indirect supervision. · Follows detailed instructions as to working plans and methods. · Knowledgeable of applicable concepts, principles, and procedures in task area. · Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. · Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations. · Responsible for formulation of the opinions, decisions, and ultimate performance of the task specified in the statement of work contained in the task order. · Applies engineering experience to perform functions such as systems integration, configuration management, quality assurance, testing and analysis. · Must be capable of independently performing high-level assessment and review functions for problems called out in the individual delivery orders and shall be required to provide definitive written and oral results/recommendations for tests that have been conducted. · Adhering to and supporting all EHS and Quality objectives, in accordance with ISO 14001, 45001 and 9001 respectively. · All other duties as assigned by Leadec manager.   Competencies:   · Managing Complexity · Managing Tasks · Open Communication · Self-Management   Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:   · Communication Skills - Ability to communicate with all levels of Leadec and customer employees. · Language Ability -- Talking to others to convey information effectively. · Basic knowledge and experience working with controls engineers to define appropriate controls design. · Superb creativity, vision, and problem-solving skills. · Knowledge of blueprint reading and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and associated tolerancing. · Excellent math skills: ability to apply advanced mathematical principles and statistics to solve problems. · Exceptional technical and problem-solving skills and reasoning ability.   Position Qualifications:   · Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. · Resume of completed projects in the automotive and conveyance markets. · Relevant certifications, registrations, and licenses may be required. · Experience integrating mechanical designs into production or test environments. · Experience working with AutoCAD Inventor, Catia, and MicroStation. · Firm grasp of engineering concepts, and experience designing mechanical systems and products. · Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment is preferred. · Must be self-motivated and a great team worker. · Quality focus · Expect 50% travel   Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the key actions of the job:   · Required to talk and/or hear in an industrial setting (noise level is high). Frequently required to stand and walk on concrete surfaces for 4 -12 hours. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; lift; climb or balance; kneel, crawl, stoop, or crouch. · Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception and focus adjustment. · Work is performed in an industrial-manufacturing environment with occasional time spent working on a computer or at a desk.
