ECS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work in our Stennis, MS location.    This position will be supporting The National Data Buoy Center mission, NDBC is a part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Oceanic_and_Atmospheric_Administration]'s (NOAA) National Weather Service [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Weather_Service] (NWS). NDBC designs, develops, operates, and maintains a network of data collecting buoys [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buoys] and coastal stations. The NDBC is located in southern Mississippi as a tenant at the John C. Stennis Space Center [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_C._Stennis_Space_Center], a National Aeronautics and Space Administration [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Aeronautics_and_Space_Administration] (NASA) facility.  This position is onsite in Stennis, MS. * Perform full lifecycle product development (design, develop, test prototypes, manufacture) producing prototype and production drawing packages. * Engineering and Design of full ocean depth enclosures to house different instrumentation, such as: stand-alone positioning recorders, temperature sensors, acoustic release modems, & ADCP’s (Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers). * Configuration management of designs, drawings, and test procedures using Vault software. * Formulate and manage activities and projects that involve operations, new technology, and application while monitoring execution plans, budgets, and operation performances. * Formulating plans and initiatives while coordinating with other agency departments to ensure designs, configurations, field testing, technology, and implementation are properly executed. * Procurement procedures and requirements for equipment and services such as writing specifications, preparing statements of work, and evaluating proposals. * Regularly interact with machinists, welders, & project managers to facilitate design and build of all NOAA/NDBC buoys, integrating the mechanics & electronics into one interchangeable package. * Create and deliver concept, preliminary, and critical design review presentations on Engineering design work. Qualifications * BS in Mechanical, Ocean or Marine Engineering or related field. * 2+ years experience in the design, planning, test, installation and operation of electromechanical systems in the marine environment. * Knowledge of Engineering concepts, principles, & techniques. * Experience with mechanically integrating new technologies into operational systems. * Experience with CAD 3D modeling software such as AutoCAD Inventor. * Experience creating Engineering drawing packages. * Experience with performing FEA analysis. * Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation. * Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse workforce.
Responsibilities
The Mechanical Engineer will support the National Data Buoy Center by performing full lifecycle product development, including design, development, testing, and manufacturing. Responsibilities also include managing projects, coordinating with other departments, and interacting with machinists and welders to facilitate the design and build of buoys.
