Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading Energy from Waste site to recruit a Mechanical Engineer for its site in Worcestershire.
The Mechanical Engineer role comes with a starting salary of up to £65,000 + benefits package.

Responsibilities and duties of the Mechanical Engineer role

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager you will:

  • Lead the mechanical maintenance team, fulfilling line management duties and driving performance.
  • Manage mechanical services and contractors, ensuring quality, effectiveness, and value.
  • Plan and supervise maintenance, including preventive work and shutdowns.
  • Respond to equipment failures, investigate root causes, and implement timely fixes.
  • Manage maintenance budgets and optimise spare parts availability.
  • Ensure statutory compliance, maintaining and testing safety devices, lifting equipment, and PSSR-regulated systems.
  • Deliver emergency repair services to maintain plant availability.
  • Support audits and compliance checks, both internal and external.
  • Develop obsolescence plans for aging mechanical assets.
  • Assist cross-functional teams, including Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation support when needed.
  • Promote a strong safety culture, following procedures and reporting all incidents and hazards.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Relevant Mechanical Engineering qualification such as HNC/HND/Degree.
  • Have previous experience in mechanical maintenance or engineering in a heavy process environment.
  • Have experience managing a team
  • Ability to manage multiple contractors / maintenance contracts
  • A Safety qualification such as IOSH / NEBOSH or equivalent
