WHAT EXPERIENCE YOU NEED TO BE THE SUCCESSFUL MECHANICAL ENGINEER:

Essential:

  • Strong technical knowledge of Power and Propulsion systems and equipment, and how they integrate with auxiliary and ancillary systems
  • Experience in system and subsystem integration
  • Experience of deriving system and sub system requirements from high level requirements and standards

Desirable:

  • Specific knowledge of shaft line equipment, steering gear and active stabilisers
  • Experience within a highly regulated industry
  • Technical subcontractor management experience

Responsibilities

Some of the main duties of the Mechanical Engineer will include:

  • Carry out specialist technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options, and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the resolution of problems and the improvement of engineering capability
  • Prepare specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained
  • Support the Principal engineer as the specialist point of contact with customers and/or suppliers in assigned areas on engineering matters, to resolve problems and issues and to maintain awareness in both parties of priorities and objectives
  • Provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development
  • Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility
