Description Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer II is responsible for carrying out the duties of the Engineering department, including design, detailing, research, prototyping, engineering documentation, and estimating. Primary focus will be on product redesign, cost reduction, and design for manufacturing. Turn concepts into manufacturable 3D models and generate necessary supporting documentation. Primary focus will be on the Snow & Ice removal equipment division, both for the Bonnell and Flink Brand Product Lines. Follow project scopes and constraints to develop innovative and cost-effective engineered solutions. Participate in design reviews with product development and production teams. Follows new products and design improvements through to successful completion. Task Management: Handles moderately complex problems from start to finish. Manage documents and workflows utilizing SolidWorks PDM. Create, monitor and document tests for products, prototypes and components. Trouble shoot shop floor issues with production team members. Partner with production to utilize the most effective manufacturing processes. Support shop with drawings, instructions., as needed. Examine, test, and evaluate conceptual designs not found in the industry, or ones used by competitors. Create and distribute service bulletins as necessary, partnering with the Customer Service Team. Develop operation manuals, including illustrations, safety, assembly, operation & service information. Supervisory Responsibility None. Work Environment This job is operated in a professional office environment with frequent visits to the production floor. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, printers, filing cabinets. Knowledgeable use of common measuring devices such as tape measures, calipers, squares, and protractors will be used routinely. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Preferred Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, mechanical engineering or related field Previous experience in industrial design, mechanical engineering or related field. Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and solve problems effectively. In-depth knowledge of SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software, including use of FEA, wire and hose routing, schematics, and PDM. Experience in a production environment. Extensive knowledge of metal fabrication processes, including material selection, sheet metal, welding, fixturing, finishing and assembly. Working knowledge of machine assembly, linkage design, etc. Hydraulic & hydrostatic systems. Power transmission and drive line systems. 12V Electrical systems, CAN bus, programming logic. Regulatory experience - OSHA, DOT, NHTSA, CFR. Air flow evaluation and design. Debris/dust collection, material handling, & filtration systems. Ergonomics/operator environment design. Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out of the area and overnight travel may be expected. All travel must be approved in advance by management. Responsibilities
