The Collins Aerospace Mission Systems Strategic Communications Solutions (SCS) engineering team is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer II. This position will require ownership and coordination with a highly cross-functional team to ensure quality and compliance of designs throughout the entirety of their lifecycles. The selected candidate will be instrumental in driving innovation in the design, development, and documentation of electronic equipment supporting military communications missions.

QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
  • Apply best practices with 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools. (Preferred: SolidWorks or similar)

QUALIFICATIONS WE PREFER:

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Top Secret clearance. Selected candidate will be subject to security investigations/reinstatements and must meet eligibility requirements.
  • Active possession of an active U.S. government issued Secret or Top Secret clearance.
  • Practical experience in design and thermal management techniques for electronics packaging designs at board and/or box/chassis levels with rigorous size, weight, and power (SWaP) requirements.
  • Background in commercial industry standards and military electronics packaging form factors, chassis design, and/or electromechanical applications.
  • Direct experience with printed circuit board (PCB) designs. Can support tasks not directly mechanical such as component selection and layout to ensure mechanical environmental considerations are met.
  • Direct experience with aircraft integration and/or the design of components used in the installation of equipment on a military airborne platform.
  • Can apply and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
  • Knowledge of military standards such as MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-1472.
    Familiarity with analysis software, particularly ANSYS or similar.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Communicate technical topics and issues in a clear and concise manner to both technical peers as well as non-technical team members.
  • Create military compliant designs that incorporate custom machined/sheet metal parts with a selection of commercial off the shelf items as required.
  • Conduct and provide constructive feedback during peer reviews.
  • Work with designers and drafters to create, modify, and release documentation such as part and assembly drawings.
  • Interface with a cross functional team, such as Electrical and Systems engineering, to ensure requirements compliance throughout the entirety of a product’s lifecycle.
  • Work proactively and in a self-driven manner with an integrated product team (IPT).
  • Participate in investigations into highly complex, open-ended tasks. Search for and identify root cause of issues.
