Description

Overview:
Rain Bird is seeking a Mechanical Engineer III for our Tucson, AZ facility. The Mechanical Engineer will design engineered to order irrigation pump stations and apply design standards to improve engineering throughput. This position will manage multiple projects at one time with deadlines according to a production schedule. The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, design experience, and 3D CAD experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Design irrigation pump stations by applying fluid dynamics principles and industry standards to ensure customer requirements are met
  • Manage design projects utilizing outsourced engineering contractors to complete multiple pump station designs each week.
  • Coordinate effectively with electrical engineers to ensure mechanical designs are compatible with electrical requirements
  • Generate production prints, Bills-of-Material, and 3D models for irrigation pump stations
  • Produce customer approval (sign-off) drawings
  • Execute design and project management activities to ensure timely completion of NPD and COGS reduction initiatives
  • Provide basic cost analysis for design comparisons
  • Provide technical support to after-sales service engineers
  • Work effectively with other plant functional groups including maintenance, production, materials, and quality
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering roles
  • Competence in mechanical design
  • Solid understanding of fabrication / machining techniques.
  • Excellent theoretical and applied knowledge of design and mechanical engineering concepts.
  • Experience in drafting 3-D assemblies and producing 2-D production prints.
  • Ability to perform basic financial analysis and cost justifications.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • SolidWorks experience
  • Experience with pump and motor applications
  • Experience in high mix, low volume manufacturing
