SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

Mechanical Engineer III is responsible for performing complex activities relating to the design, testing, and evaluation of mechanical and electro-mechanical devices and systems. Exercises independent judgment in method, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field with at least 5 years of mechanical design, product development and R&D experience related to mass production and manufacturing.
  • Demonstrable experience with hands-on prototyping and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with and knowledge of different manufacturing methods such as sheet metal forming, machining, casting, weldment and injection molding for efficient part design.
  • Knowledge of and experience with 3D printing technologies and printers, SLA, FDM, SLS. Makerspace experience is a plus.
  • CAD Proficiency including 3D modeling and 2D drafting. Solidworks preferred.
  • Experience with finite element analysis such as SolidWorks Simulation is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise solid decision making
  • Self-motifvating work ethic with a drive to understand all aspects of a design project.

Responsibilities
  • Develop mechanical and electromechanical products by studying requirements, researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials.
  • Own all phases of the product development process from concept, through prototyping, design validation testing to production drawings
  • Design involvement will range from concept to product realization using 3D solid modeling software.
  • Specific tasks include design of mechanical parts and assemblies, including electronic enclosures, machined metal parts, sheet metal components, and 3D printed parts (additive manufacturing) incorporating electrical and cabling systems into designs.
  • Other design aspects include material selection, tolerance analysis, thermal solution design, implementation of human interface elements such as connectors and buttons, and routing of wiring harnesses.
  • Coordinate design efforts with internal Electrical Engineers, interface with vendors and external machine shops for prototyping/mass production.
  • Generate documentation such as exploded assembly drawings and develop bills of materials (BOMs) in coordination with engineering document control team.
  • Produce test fixtures and provide direct support to local manufacturing and contract manufacturers in Asia.
  • Provide support for customer issues and mechanical related operational issues.
  • Design, develop, manufacture and install new or modified mechanical components or systems.
  • Iterate designs quickly to find the optimal product configuration.
  • Perform thorough analysis and validation on mechanical designs leveraging both hands-on problem solving as well as exercising sound engineering practices.
