Company Overview Joby Flight Research designs, develops, and flight-tests novel aircraft using a software-first autonomy approach. We build and deploy autonomy, perception, planning, and radar systems across conventional, electric, and hydrogen-electric aircraft in both CTOL and VTOL configurations. Overview Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate student to join the Flight Research team in Santa Cruz, CA as a Mechanical Engineering Intern. This individual would be responsible for designing testing equipment, ground support equipment, and related manufacturing tooling. This role will involve design work starting at the conceptual level through full modeling and continue into manufacturing and testing. Responsibilities Design of complicated components and packaging Initial layout and sizing Detailed design and fabrication specifications Direct communication with vendors and technicians in manufacturing Required Entering junior or senior year of undergraduate degree or above at time of internship Available Summer 2026 Excellent problem solving and communication skills Strong analytical background Experience with hands-on design and testing Proficiency in mechanical design, materials selection, kinematics, troubleshooting, and analysis Proficiency with CAD Proficiency w/ 3D printing Proficiency w/ machining and welding metallic components Desired Experience with OnShape, Solidworks, or CATIA CAD, specifically using Generative Shape Design, Part Design, and Assembly Design modules. Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is undergrad: $22.00 - $31.00/ hourgraduate: $5,550 - $7,800/ month. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
