Description
The Airborne Systems Division, within the Defense Group at Leidos, currently has a dynamic opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to work in our Beavercreek, OH office providing support for our Wright Patterson Air Force Base customer. This is an exciting opportunity to use your experience to advance the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL) Rapid Technology Development and Demonstrations (RTD2) program. In support of the RTD2 program, your position as a Mechanical Engineer will be to support AFRL programs mature new and emerging technologies and supporting Leidos internal research and development. The position objectives are to provide technical and operational support of new and evolving sensor systems and sensor technologies, provide support for ground and flight demonstrations and tests, and to perform sensor system integration into laboratories, aircraft, and other vehicles/platforms as necessary.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the design and integration of ISR sensors and systems payloads on various ground and air based applications
  • Design mounting structures for both ground and aircraft testing components
  • Develop parts lists (BOMs) for drawings and payloads
  • Work with vendors obtain engineering cost estimates on designed components
  • Assembly of components and payloads
  • Support flight testing operations

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field with 2-4 years of experience
  • Experience with CAD tools, drawings, basic modeling techniques
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance
  • Familiar with common hand tools (screw drivers, drills, wrenches)
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds and work in unairconditioned environments during flight testing events (less than 1 month a year)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplined engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Creo (Pro Engineer)
  • Experience with ASME Y14 drawing practices
  • Familiar with manufacturing processes of metals and composites
