Description:
Marshall Canada requires a Mechanical Engineer in Ottawa, ON to join our team. Reporting to the Engineering Manager – Mechanical, this role is responsible for the provision of design engineering services that will support to Land projects while following project plans and working to defined standards of quality.
Your responsibilities in this role:
- Promote the implementation of Systems and/or Mechanical Engineering across the Marshall Engineering function.
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of the standards and specification appropriate to the discipline of Systems and/or Mechanical Engineering.
- Apply a pragmatic and best practice Systems and/or Mechanical Engineering techniques to support our projects and business development activities.
- Become familiar within and assist in the continuous improvement of the Marshall Business Management System (BMS) procedures.
- Work effectively across the matrix and deliver bottom-line performance collaboratively.
- Challenge the status quo, bring new ideas to reduce project / product cost and improve engineering quality, productivity, and timeliness of delivery.
- Create, contribute, and work to standards, ensure rigor, resilience, and continuous improvement in design solutions, meeting all regulatory requirements, conforming to specifications, quality and certification requirements within schedule and budget.
- Act as a project integrator and interface between project management and other engineering teams.
- Design products that are safe and meet all statutory requirements. Ensure design solutions are tolerant of the environment in which they operate. Resolve design queries.
- Produce, amend, and check drawings and Items lists for use by other departments in line with department processes. Carry out drawing check and support sign off through production.
- Maintain a current and up-to-date knowledge of developments of existing and new products in order to recommend innovations to improve the quality and effectiveness of company products.
- Control product, build standard, drawing and document configuration control.
- Support various design review meetings (SRR, ERR, PDR, CDR, change boards etc.)
- Support creation of redlines or other design change management process where required.
- Provide support to other departments, including production, as required.
- Carry out PLM admin and Configuration Control activities. Analyze Change Requests within PLM.
- Create and update Engineering Change Notification for new and existing tasks/ products.
- Build Top Level Assemblies and Bills of Material (BOM) structure in PLM for new products/ projects.
- Collaborate across Engineering Functions, including Electrical and manufacturing.
- Provide technical guidance to and oversee a small number of engineers when Project needs arise.
- Other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager – Mechanical.
Apply if you have most of the following :
- Qualified to degree level in Engineering, Mathematics or Physics from an accredited university with relevant and sufficient experience in the field or have equivalent knowledge gained through other forms of education.
- Domain experience in mechanical engineering with Modular Shelter based products preferred.
- Minimum five years of experience in aircraft or land design with structural and/ or analysis experience preferred.
- Experienced being part of a team delivering and planning large and complex tasks to schedule and budget demonstrating effective time management across many projects and priorities.
- Sound understanding of product safety, standards, and rugged environments.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to support multiple projects at once.
- Ability to plan and stay to schedule and budget.
- Strong aptitude for developing computing skills and the ability to learn new software packages.
- Proficient with Autodesk Inventor.
- Proficient with Windchill PLM with experience in populating Part attributes, building Part structures, raising, and completing Change Requests, Change Notices and Change Tasks, is preferred.
- Microsoft Software including Word and Excel
- Broad understanding of manufacturing techniques including, sheet metal fabrication, riveting, bonding, and welding.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in using professional or technical expertise to make decisions and provide guidance to colleagues.
- Excellent communication & interpersonal skills: fluent written and oral English are mandatory and competence in French is beneficial.
Must be eligible to meet the requirements of export control regulations, including the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and Canadian government security requirements.
