Description
The Maintenance Mechanical Engineer role is established to enhance plant reliability, availability, and maintainability of mechanical equipment through engineering analysis, effective preventive maintenance strategies, and continuous improvement initiatives. This position ensures safe, efficient, and cost-effective maintenance execution by providing technical expertise, conducting failure analysis, and optimizing equipment performance to support operational excellence. Responsibilities: Mandatory objectives (Applied for all employees and contractor): Implement and comply with Occupational Health Safety & Environment (OHSE) Policy, Quality & Environmental Management System, BSL Policy, Code of Conduct (How We Work), Collective Labour Agreement (CLA) and Government Regulations. Deliver continuous improvement idea and implementation to support project and production line, maintenance, utility and warehouse area. Develop and improve preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for mechanical equipment. Analyse equipment failures and conduct root cause analysis (RCA). Provide technical support to maintenance supervisors and technicians and Review contractor technical work quality and compliance. Improve equipment reliability, MTBF, and reduce MTTR. Review and optimize maintenance procedures and work instructions. Identify bad actors and implement corrective action plans. Support planning team in job scoping, estimation, and technical preparation. Evaluate spare part specifications and define critical spare parts list. Lead mechanical improvement and modification projects. Ensure compliance with safety, engineering standards, and statutory requirements. Participate in shutdown planning and execution activities. Monitor equipment performance and recommend upgrades or redesigns. Support cost reduction initiatives and maintenance budgeting. Maintain technical documentation, drawings, history records related to best maintenance practices, new equipment provision or equipment modification. Manage communication with contractor related to job offer, tendering process and work execution Direct the maintenance work force and provides on-site expertise in mechanical scope Support NSBI Strategic Project and small improvement project related to: Mechanical Design Mechanical Installation and construction. Manage assigned maintenance cost, CAPEX project under approved budget and promised timeline. Also need to ensure the project safety performance by achieving “Zero Harm” Ensures quality of work and documentation for improvement project-based task Review work planning and scheduling with planner. Responsible for providing feedback to the maintenance planner to ensure that jobs plan is efficient and effective and that scheduling is accurate. Qualification and/or experience required: Bachelor’s degree Mechanical Engineering Min. 3 years Work Experience Demonstrated safety leadership Experience in similar industry or Experience in continuous processing line Leading work group / contractor Experience to manage craft / technician – Good Leadership skill Technical capability for failure analysis RCA capability (six sigma certificate is advantage) Mechanical software drawing capability Preferred Qualification and/or experience required: Mechanical Engineering Knowledge of rotating and static equipment Failure analysis and root cause analysis capability Understanding of maintenance strategy (PM, PdM, RCM) Technical drawing reading ability Good analytical and problem solving skills Computer literacy (MS Office, CMMS/SAP) At NS BlueScope our success comes from our people.
