Description
This role adds value by delivering high quality mechanical engineering expertise that strengthens asset integrity and operational efficiency. It leads and governs mechanical CAPEX projects to ensure they are completed on time, on budget, and in compliance with NSBI requirements and government regulations, ultimately supporting NSBI’s long term productivity and growth. Responsibilities: Mandatory objectives (Applied for all employees): Implement and comply with Occupational Health, Safety & Environment (OHSE) Policy, Quality & Environmental Management System, NSBI policies, Code of Conduct (How We Work), Collective Labour Agreement (CLA), and all applicable Government Regulations. Deliver NSBI safety performance expectations to project teams and contractors in alignment with the NSBI Safety Management Plan. Develop all required safety documents (JSEA, work permits, and other safety approvals) prior to execution of mechanical work. Identify, develop, and implement mechanical continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability, efficiency, and performance across production, maintenance, utilities, and warehouse areas. Develop technical documents and engineering specifications for new equipment, equipment modifications, and mechanical design requirements. Coordinate and manage communication with contractors during job offering, tendering, project execution, and close-out to ensure clarity of scope, safety, and quality. Support NSBI strategic projects and small improvement projects involving mechanical design, installation, and construction. Ensure all mechanical projects comply with NSBI regulations, Codes of Practice (COP), internal engineering standards, and government requirements. Lead and manage assigned CAPEX projects to deliver approved scope, budget, and timeline while ensuring project safety performance achieves “Zero Harm”. Ensure proper change management processes are applied and approved before implementing any equipment or process modification. Maintain accuracy, completeness, and quality of engineering deliverables and project documentation to support long-term asset integrity and audit requirements. Qualification and/or experience required: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering within industrial or manufacturing environments. Experience in supporting or executing CAPEX / investment projects. Good safety leadership and strong adherence to OHSE requirements. Experience leading and supervising contractors or work groups. Experience working in continuous production line operations. Experience in steel industry or other heavy industry (preferred). Knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment design, installation, and troubleshooting. Understanding of maintenance practices (preventive, predictive, corrective). Ability to conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA). Understanding engineering standards and mechanical safety requirements. Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability. Good communication and coordination skills with internal teams and contractors. Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions Preferred Qualification and/or experience required: Proficiency in 2D/3D engineering design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar tools. Experience in mechanical design, drafting review, and verification of vendor drawings. Familiarity with project scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera). Experience in mechanical installation, commissioning, and equipment performance testing. Exposure to reliability engineering tools (RCM, FMEA). Understanding of industry mechanical standards (ASME, API, ISO, JIS, etc.). Experience working with contractor management and monitoring field installation quality. Knowledge in cost estimation, BOQ preparation, and technical evaluation for procurement. Experience in energy efficiency or mechanical process optimization projects. Basic understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment. Exposure to risk management and construction safety practices. Good stakeholder management and vendor negotiation skills.
