Description The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for developing accurate and manufacturable designs of sheet metal panels, structural supports, barriers, and conductive copper bus assemblies for low- to medium-voltage switchgear. This role ensures designs meet client requirements, regulatory standards, and manufacturing best practices, while contributing to efficiency, quality, and company growth. You will collaborate with electrical designers, engineers, project managers, and manufacturing personnel, while also serving as a key resource in solving complex design challenges. Schedule: Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm Location: Your main location will be our Belle Chasse, LA facility but you must have the ability to travel to our Bay St. Louis, MS location. This position is 100% onsite, we do not offer relocation assistance. Responsibilities: Create detailed 3D models and drawings of sheet metal panels, structural supports, barriers, and bus assemblies using CAD software, specifically AutoDesk Inventor. Ensure all designs align with manufacturability, client specifications, safety, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate closely with electrical designers to accurately integrate structural and copper bus elements into client drawing packages. Partner cross-functionally with project management, manufacturing, sales, estimating, and field service to support project execution and resolve technical issues. Prepare bill of materials, assembly drawings, and cut sheets to support manufacturing in a timely and efficient manner. Reduce cycle time by reusing or adapting existing designs where applicable. Contribute to design reviews and process improvements that enhance quality, reduce costs, and improve reliability. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less-experienced designers when needed. Qualifications: Education & Certification High School Diploma or GED, Required. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) License, preferred. Experience 2+ years of mechanical design experience in a switchgear or electrical equipment, Required. Proficiency with AutoDesk Inventor, Required. Experience preparing parts lists, bill of materials, and assembly drawings for manufacturing, preferred. Must have the ability to travel between facilities in Belle Chasse, LA and Bay St. Louis, MS, Required. Skills & Knowledge Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, sheet metal fabrication, and machining Familiarity with press brake and CNC punch equipment (e.g., Accupress Press Brake, Trump Punch) Understanding of product lifecycle management, quality control, and cost optimization. Competence with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with ERP/MRP systems (AS400, SQL Server, etc.) preferred. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information to cross-functional teams and clients. Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented with a commitment to quality and integrity. Advanced math skills, including the ability to calculate proportions, dimensions, and tolerances.
