JOB SUMMARY

The Mechanical Engineer researches, plans, and designs the mechanical components of power distribution systems, and provides critical input regarding fabrication, operation, application installation, and repair of mechanical products by performing the following duties.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards, and customer specifications (e.g., NEMA, NEC, UL, IEEE).
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor).
  • Knowledge of sheet metal design, structural mechanics, and thermal management.
  • Familiarity with applicable standards: UL 891/1558, NEMA, NEC, IEEE.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, including welding, forming, and powder coating.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly Epicor, a plus
  • Proficiency with standard professional software- MS Office or similar

REQUIRED / PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 1 year of mechanical design experience
  • Familiarity in the design or function of PDCs, switchgear enclosures, electrical cabinets, or industrial control panels a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner and promotes “Safety First” mentality across team.
  • Design mechanical systems and components for power distribution centers and related equipment
  • Utilize CAD software to develop building models based on customer and Industry inputs.
  • Ensure designs meet industry standards and regulatory codes.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate mechanical systems with electrical components.
  • Support the installation and commissioning of mechanical systems in substations and distribution centers.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely delivery of components and services.
  • Ensure all mechanical systems comply with safety regulations and environmental standards.
  • Participate in risk assessments and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain records of design changes, testing procedures, and performance evaluations.
  • Recommend upgrades or modifications to improve system efficiency and reliability.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in mechanical engineering and power distribution.
