About Solmech

Solmech is an Australian renewable energy construction company specialising in the delivery of large-scale solar and energy infrastructure projects across Australia and New Zealand.

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the planning, engineering, installation, quality assurance and delivery of mechanical systems and equipment across our renewable energy projects.

About the Role

Reporting to the project leadership team, the Mechanical Engineer will provide technical engineering support throughout the project lifecycle. The position will work closely with construction managers, supervisors, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure mechanical works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications, engineering requirements and applicable standards.

The role will involve a combination of office-based engineering and regular travel to regional project sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, coordinate and oversee the installation of mechanical systems, equipment and components used across renewable energy projects.
  • Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, designs and construction documentation.
  • Determine suitable materials, equipment, components, installation methods and quality requirements.
  • Support the mechanical installation and commissioning of solar tracking systems, mounting structures, plant and associated project equipment.
  • Conduct engineering calculations, technical assessments and constructability reviews.
  • Inspect mechanical installations and completed works to confirm compliance with designs, specifications and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Develop and maintain inspection and test plans, quality records, technical reports and project documentation.
  • Investigate mechanical defects, performance issues and non-conformances and coordinate suitable corrective actions.
  • Liaise with project managers, construction teams, designers, suppliers, clients and subcontractors regarding technical and engineering matters.
  • Monitor the performance, reliability and safety of mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Assist with procurement by reviewing technical submissions, supplier documentation and equipment specifications.
  • Support project planning, programming, risk management, commissioning and handover activities.
  • Ensure engineering and construction activities comply with workplace health and safety, environmental and quality requirements.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of3 years’ relevant experience in mechanical engineering, construction, infrastructure or renewable energy projects.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing engineering drawings, designs and technical specifications.
  • Experience supporting mechanical installation, commissioning, inspection and quality assurance activities.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, equipment and construction methodologies.
  • Knowledge of applicable Australian Standards, WHS requirements and engineering quality systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical reporting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and experience maintaining accurate engineering and quality documentation.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to and work at regional project locations as required.
  • Current Australian driver’s licence or the ability to obtain one.
