SAIC has an opening for an organized and motivated Mechanical Engineer who is looking for an opportunity to grow with our company as we continue to expand our business into new and exciting market segments. Work will be performed by a geographically dispersed SAIC team that works closely with Government personnel from the Navy Yard (Washington, DC), the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC), Division Keyport (Washington) and NUWC Division Newport (Rhode Island). The individual will be part of a collaborative team of engineers and support technicians working to bring projects from the early concept and design phase all the way through fabrication, system integration, and acceptance testing. The technical area of focus is undersea weapons. This includes torpedo propulsion, torpedo test and evaluation, torpedo support equipment and other continually evolving tasking. The candidate will need a broad engineering skillset, well-developed work habits, an enthusiasm for the work, a willingness to get hands-on with the projects when required, an eagerness to learn new things, and the ability to work through challenging projects without extensive oversight. These projects will broadly include the updating of legacy designs to resolve obsolescence issues and enable the efficient manufacturing of complex and robust electromechanical systems. Candidate will support the modernization of existing test and support equipment as well as the development of new support equipment for both production and research and development (R&D) purposes. Designs are fully documented by the creation of three-dimensional (3D) models and two-dimensional (2D) drawings, schematics, interpreting and updating specifications, and the development of Technical Data Packages (TDPs). Systems have rigorous configuration management processes and systems and comply with NAVSEA Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) processes. Candidates must demonstrate a history of excelling at multiple concurrent challenges and the ability to successfully work with people from a broad range of disciplines both in an office environment and on-site where the components are being fabricated or where they’re going through final integration and test. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and five (5) or more years of experience OR M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and three (3) or more years of experience DESIRED SKILLS Ability to understand and apply appropriate manufacturing and industry standards. Ability to interpret product requirements and evaluate against assembly or part level designs. Experience with troubleshooting and root cause analysis. Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently with changing deadlines and priorities. Must be able to complete tasks in an unsupervised and self-directed fashion Self motivation and have excellent problem solving skills Proficiency in technical writing, reports and briefing information to stakeholders Experience with configuration management process and tools Experience with NAVSEA Systems Engineering processes Familiarization with CAD software for the development of 3D models and 2D drawings, preferably SolidWorks Proficient with all Microsoft Office Professional software applications CLEARANCE Must be able to obtain clearance up to the level of SECRET Active SECRET (or above) clearance is preferred
