SAIC is currently hiring a Mechanical Engineer in Lakehurst NJ. This position is onsite in Lakehurst, NJ. Job Duties: Lead design projects of small parts up to and including complex mechanical systems, working with stakeholders and ensuring proper physical interfacing with the greater system. Analyze and troubleshoot hydraulic systems, generators, and large motors. Develop (using CREO Parametric) and interpret engineering drawings of complex parts and systems according to best practices and proper geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Develop solid models of new or existing parts using CREO Parametric and engineering drawings. Execute test and troubleshooting procedures based on project requirements, in locations to include test sites, manufacturing facilities, and aboard active and pre-commissioned Navy vessels. Lead failure and root cause investigations, developing and presenting recommendations to program leadership and implementing solutions through development of installation procedures. Develop responses to requests for engineering information from sources such as manufacturing facilities, contractors, and shipyards. Analyze bolted joints and mechanical parts for suitability, considering fatigue and fracture life of equipment. Analyze parts requirements or installation parameters that fall outside of specifications and provide recommendations and corrective actions. Assist with review and development of maintenance procedures. Interpret engineering specifications for: Structural materials Hardware such as bolts, nuts, and washers Environmental testing Equipment design standards Travel up to 20%25 may be required. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree and Five (5) years or more of engineering experience. Experience with mechanical design, development, and maintenance of turbomachinery or complex mechanical systems and machinery. Expert in development, review, and geometric dimensioning and tolerance of engineering drawings. Well versed with solid modeling using CREO Parametric (preferred) or other solid modeling program. Good understanding and practice of fatigue and fracture mechanics, failure and root cause analysis, and collection of quantitative empirical data leading into development of structural models and analyses. Excellent communication skills. Ability to communicate and work effectively with stakeholders and personnel of varying technical knowledge, experience, and backgrounds. Ability to function independently or cooperatively as the situation dictates, in a manufacturing, test, and shipboard environment with personnel from varying backgrounds and levels of experience. Experience working aboard active naval vessels is a plus, but not required. Familiarity with the Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) process a plus. Familiarity with manufacturing processes including non-destructive inspection (NDI) methods a plus. Required Security Clearance: · Must have an active secret clearance on first day of employment.
