Mechanical Engineer – Heatherbrae, NSW
The role
This role is part of our team focused on the development and overhaul of products within the business unit of Global Products – Mechanical Cutting. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will participate in all phases of the product lifecycle – from design and technical support to workshop and field assistance – with a particular focus on RTV equipment.
Areas of responsibility
Your profile
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional to join our dynamic team. You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent tertiary qualification and bring at least five years of hands-on experience with flameproof underground equipment. You have demonstrated expertise in Australian and international explosion protection standards (including AUS/NZ Standards, MDG, and Recognised Standards), with a particular focus on diesel engine systems.
You possess strong technical expertise, including the ability to interpret engineering requirements, develop mechanical systems using 3D CAD software (e.g., Siemens NX, SolidWorks), and perform engineering calculations and simulations. You have a solid foundation in mechanical principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes.
You are structured, hands-on, and driven by a passion for delivering practical, safe, and innovative solutions. Your experience with heavy mobile equipment and strong interest in supporting product improvements from design through to field deployment are essential.
You also have an in-depth understanding of safety and regulatory compliance, including Australian engineering standards, mining equipment safety legislation, WHS regulations, and safety considerations throughout the design and operational phases. In addition, you are familiar with underground mining operations and the specific challenges associated with mechanical cutting systems.
You have a thorough understanding of the product development lifecycle, from concept through to field support, including design validation and technical documentation. Your ability to create and maintain comprehensive safety and technical documentation (manuals, bulletins, compliance reports) ensures the highest standards of quality and safety.
Finally, you are committed to knowledge sharing and actively contribute your expertise to internal and external stakeholders. Your strong analytical and problem-solving skills enable you to proactively identify technical issues and develop practical, engineering-based solutions.
