Position Purpose

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the engineering, design, development, manufacture, installation, commissioning and technical support of mechanical equipment, fabricated assemblies, process pipework and machinery used in industrial applications, including food, dairy and pharmaceutical environments.

Key Responsibilities

· Design and develop mechanical equipment, machinery, fabricated assemblies, frames, tanks, pipework supports and associated components for industrial applications.

· Prepare and review engineering drawings, layouts, fabrication drawings, specifications, bills of materials and technical documentation using appropriate CAD and engineering tools.

· Undertake engineering calculations and technical assessments relating to dimensions, loads, materials, tolerances, mechanical components and equipment performance.

· Select appropriate materials, mechanical components and manufacturing methods with consideration for functionality, reliability, maintainability, safety and project requirements.

· Plan mechanical equipment and process layouts, including the arrangement and integration of machinery, pipework, supports and fabricated components.

· Provide engineering direction to fabrication and welding personnel and resolve technical issues arising during manufacture and assembly.

· Oversee the manufacture, assembly, erection, installation and commissioning of mechanical equipment and process plant installations.

· Inspect and test mechanical equipment, fabricated assemblies and installations to verify conformity with drawings, specifications, quality requirements and applicable engineering standards.

· Analyse mechanical systems and components to evaluate performance, identify faults and recommend design, operational or maintenance improvements.

· Investigate equipment failures, mechanical defects and unexpected maintenance issues and develop practical corrective actions.

· Develop modifications and improvements to existing machinery and equipment to improve performance, safety, reliability, production efficiency and maintainability.

· Coordinate engineering activities with customers, suppliers, contractors and workshop personnel to ensure technical requirements, project scope and delivery requirements are understood.

· Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, maintenance and troubleshooting of machinery and mechanical systems.· Establish and maintain engineering documentation, inspection requirements, testing records and technical information for projects.

· Apply relevant Australian engineering, workplace safety and quality requirements to mechanical design, fabrication, installation and commissioning activities.

· Contribute to project planning, material requirements, manufacturing sequencing, technical procurement and estimation of engineering and fabrication work.
