JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Designer specializing in HVAC and plumbing systems to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of mechanical building systems design, the ability to lead projects from concept to completion, and strong coordination skills with other disciplines. This role involves producing detailed design documents, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring that all systems meet performance, safety, and code requirements.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in HVAC and plumbing design for commercial, institutional, and/or industrial projects.
  • Experience leading mechanical design portions of projects independently

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, IES, and design calculation software (e.g., Carrier HAP, Trane Trace).
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC and plumbing codes and standards.
  • Experience with sustainable design practices and familiarity with LEED requirements is a plus.

    Pay: $75,000.00-$125,000.00 per year

Responsibilities
  • Design & Drafting: Develop HVAC and plumbing system layouts, schematics, and detailed drawings using AutoCAD, IES, or similar tools.
  • Project Leadership: Lead mechanical design efforts from conceptual design through construction documents.
  • Code Compliance: Ensure all designs meet applicable codes, standards, and client requirements (ASHRAE, NFPA, NBC, NPC, local codes).
  • System Calculations: Perform load calculations, equipment sizing, ductwork and piping design, and pressure loss calculations.
  • Coordination: Work closely with architects, structural engineers, and electrical engineers to ensure fully integrated design solutions.
  • Quality Control: Review and check design work for accuracy, constructability, and compliance with standards.
  • Mentorship: Guide and support junior designers and drafters in technical skills and project execution.
  • Construction Support: Provide technical support during bidding and construction phases, including reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and conducting site visits.
