As a Mechanical Engineer you will provide specialist technical support and advice, involving design assessment, the examination of pressurized and hazardous content systems, and nuclear transport packages.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate Mechanical Engineer or equivalent in a relevant discipline or working towards graduate mechanical engineer status with relevant pressure/hazardous content systems experience.
  • Experience of the inspection of pressure systems in accordance with the PSSRs.
  • Practical interpretation and application of national and international codes and standards for designing pressure vessels, piping systems and associated safety accessories.
  • Incorporated Engineer or working towards achieving professional registration.

DESIRABLE SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Thorough Understanding of the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations and the Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations.
  • Good understanding of NDT techniques.
  • Knowledge of welding and fabrication techniques and standards for the manufacture and repair of pressure and hazardous content equipment.
  • Experience of a wide range of materials used within industrial/chemical plant applications and associated properties.
Responsibilities
  • Provision of an independent design verification service within Springfields, catering for new, in-service and repaired equipment within the following categories:
  • Pressure Vessels
  • Bulk hazardous content equipment
  • Piping systems
  • Mechanical safety accessories and relief streams
  • Nuclear transport packages
  • Create new and amending existing Written Schemes of Examination for pressure and hazardous content systems.
  • Approval of quality plans and concessions associated with the in-house manufacture and repair of equipment.
  • Lead Authoritative Technical Reviews associated with changes to Written Schemes of Examinations.
  • Provision of technical guidance to personnel at all levels of the organisation on the above shared categories.
  • Some organisation/planning of contractor inspection resource.
