Description

STR is focused on delivering National Defense capabilities by driving mission-focused strategies to develop advanced technology systems enabling enduring products and solutions focused on achieving the customer vision. Our programs deliver sustainable, reliable, and cost-efficient capabilities focused on end-customer needs that function in operationally relevant environments and timeframes. We consider the entire lifecycle of the solution, from conceptualization and architecting, through development to deployment, while leveraging novel technologies to deliver first-of-a-kind systems.
STR is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of electro-mechanical hardware for applications such as advanced multi-function Radar systems and unmanned systems.
In this role, you will design and implement hardware under the guidance of senior Engineers for operationally relevant environments. This position will offer the opportunity for technical design, analysis, development, testing, and fielding of capabilities. You will be involved with ensuring hardware moves through the entire life-cycle, from conceptualization, through design and fabrication, to integration and test, and ultimately delivery. This role may involve 3D CAD design, generation of detailed documentation, conducting supporting tests and analyses such as structural, vibration, shock, and thermal, identification/specification of components and vendors, initiation and tracking of procurement and inventory, and assembly of hardware (test systems, prototypes, and deliverable units). Since the systems developed are deployed in operationally relevant environments, the hardware you develop needs to meet standards of quality, maintainability, and reuse.
The successful candidate will have applicable knowledge in areas such as: mechanical engineering, fabrication and assembly, analysis, heating, and cooling techniques. This position requires skills in working with multi-disciplinary teams, design, development, and test activities, as well as proficiency in relevant technologies. Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical skills are required. Applicants are expected to be self-motivated, detail oriented and have ability to effectively communicate.

Responsibilities
  • Support development of hardware systems through the development lifecycle, from system requirements definition through to delivery
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand system requirements and specifications as they relate to assigned tasking
  • Under guidance from senior staff, design and implement hardware designs and support assembly, integration, and testing. Activities may include:
  • Create detailed 3D CAD (SolidWorks and PDM) models and associated documentation appropriate for fabrication and assembly (e.g. detailed drawings, bill-of-materials)
  • Conduct and/or support analyses (Finite element and “back-of-the-envelope") for structural, shock, vibration, and thermal mitigation
  • Identify/specify components and vendors, initiate and track procurement/inventory
  • Near term tasking may be related to RF systems for airborne applications, but you may be tasked on other applications as needed
