Description

WestCorp Solutions is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support our client’s Tailings Assets in Fort McMurray, AB. This role covers planning through to execution and follow-up on LSD, NDE, and maintenance projects, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
Location: Fort McMurray, AB
Contract Length: 6 months with potential for extension.
Schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off, 12-hour days
Travel FIFO: Client-chartered flights from Edmonton or Calgary
Travel Local: Client-provided bussing available at beginning and end of set.
Note: Daily commuting is not permitted; all workers must stay in camp during scheduled work rotations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Practicing P.Eng. with APEGA in good standing.
  • 5–10 years’ experience in Primary Extraction or Tailings Operations.
  • Proven background in heavy industrial mechanical systems.
  • Strong skills in scope development, technical drawing interpretation, and BOM creation.
  • Experience with maintenance planning, RCA, and MOC processes.
  • Effective communicator with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and schedule LSD and NDE work; update and track progress.
  • Conduct field walkdowns and review contractor SOWs.
  • Develop piping scopes, drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
  • Respond to RFIs and technical questions from operations, supply chain, and vendors.
  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage spare parts requirements and post-LSD replenishment.
  • Develop and manage MOCs for Coarse Tailings, Fine Tailings, Drainage, and Wells.
  • Prepare SOWs for shutdowns, lifts, and spool changes.
  • Collaborate with the Reliability group to share data and support asset analytics (e.g., wear rates, service life).
