Job Role: Mechanical Engineering Technician
We are recruiting a Mechanical Engineering Technician to join the MPA team for our public service client.
To work as a Mechanical Engineering technician as part of the Fleet Mechanical & Engineering teams within the three regional workshops to ensure service delivery of all specialists’ operational equipment and vehicles is met at all times.
The Mechanical Engineering Technician (MET) is responsible for the Inspection, diagnostics, planned maintenance, emergency repair, bodywork, Coach building and modification to all vehicles and equipment within the NIFRS fleet of Vehicles and Operational equipment. The MET will be expected to work across differing trade disciplines in carrying out their role.
Location – Belfast
Hours of Work – Monday – Sunday on a rota basis between the hours of 6AM – 10pm
Salary - £19.11 per hour

Responsibilities

· Responsible for the repair, maintenance, modification and servicing of all NIFRS emergency response fire vehicles and supporting equipment to standards defined in legislation and best practice.
· Responsible for diagnosis of faults, carrying out repairs and in-depth overhauls on a wide range of specialist vehicles, operational equipment and components.
· To assist other trades within Fleet & Engineering services and the communication departments, where their skill set is more applicable to affect that repair, including all operational equipment.
· To participate in Regional Engineering call Rota to facilitate an effective support network to ensure operational resilience is maintained out of hours. Whilst on call the MET will be expected to make all repair decisions unsupervised on all aspects of the vehicle and equipment repair.
· Responsible for carrying out PSV/MOT Inspection to all blue light vehicles to the standard laid down within Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency and the UK National Fire Chief Council utilizing NIFRS exemption and “signing” the vehicle as safe to be on the road.
· Responsible for carrying out body repairs and modifications on the specialist firefighting appliance bodywork to include fabrication of stowage parts using specialist engineering tools. Including guillotines, formers, benders and paint sprayers.
· Responsible for repairing, maintaining & inspecting all electrical & electronic circuits and/or equipment using the latest computer technology to diagnose faults down to circuit board level.
