Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer will be part of the Vehicle Engineering team which forms part of the wider Systems Engineering function. The Mechanical Engineer – Vehicle Engineering will work collaboratively with the engineering functions in the UK, Japan and Italy on several train systems including Car bodies and Bogies, predominantly focusing on structural assessments.

Depending on the project, its scope, and stage within the V-lifecycle, as the Train Work Package engineer, you will be expected to carry out or contribute to the following activities as required, with respect to the work packages within Vehicle Engineering:

  • Provide bid support for new rolling stock projects including requirements evaluation, pre-concept design development, technical document production, budget forecasting, etc.
  • Develop/evaluate operability concepts.
  • Design/evaluate system architectures.
  • Support the creation and development of System Requirement Documents (SRD’s) for third party suppliers where required.
  • Be fully engaged with Japan and Italy, monitoring and reviewing all technical documentation received against requirements.
  • Ensuring the completion of design activities to meet the required interface-freeze deadlines.
  • Develop Test Specifications, as necessary.
  • Develop Interface Control Documents, as necessary.
  • Produce/compile drawings, models and FE assessments, as necessary.
  • Produce design documentation to support the Safety and Approvals team, to achieve all relevant approvals.
  • Produce design documentation, including calculation assessments, to demonstrate compliance with the customer specification.
  • Respond to customer open items.
  • Operate GPLM change process where items within the technical area are subject to problem reports and change requests
  • Provide support to all other functions in the areas of your technical competence.
  • Provide support at the build & testing phase, inclusive of onsite site support if necessary.
  • Provide support to OS&M during initial warranty period.
