Wabi Iron & Steel Corp. has an immediate opening for a Mechanical Engineer.Wabi Iron & Steel Corp. offers a competitive salary, medical and dental benefits, and pension plan. This vacancy is a full-time, permanent, salaried position, Monday to Thursday, for a minimum of 37.5 hours per week.
The mechanical engineer analyzes preliminary design concepts and prepares clear, complete and accurate working plans, detailed drawings, engineering calculations, and specification sheets for the mechanical division’s product lines.
Main Responsibilities:
- Analyze engineering sketches, specifications, and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape, and arrangement of parts.
- Sketch rough layout of machine and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages and location of holes.
- Consult with customers on an ongoing basis to establish exact technical requirements and discuss any product modifications.
- Evaluate design ideas based on factors such as appealing appearance, design-function relationships, serviceability, materials, and methods engineering, application, budget, price, production costs, methods of production, market characteristics, and client specifications.
- Perform required engineering calculations such as strength of materials, size of materials, and static and dynamic loads.
- Operate computer aided design and drafting station (Inventor / AutoCAD).
- Develop and prepares general arrangement drawings as well as detailed subassembly drawings.
- Check dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
- Utilize knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
- Design pneumatic and hydraulic systems required by the company’s products.
- Review load calculations performed by the designers.
- Conduct detail drawing checks.
- Assist with quotes and cost estimating as required.
- Conduct equipment inspections at mine sites and within plant for the purpose of load rating certification.
- Make any adjustments or changes necessary or desired to products as requested by customers.
- Generates hard copies of all drawings and issues complete drawing sets for fabrication and ISO 9001 program.
- Make blueprints or copies of drawings as required.
- Manage three of four design projects at any one time.
- Arrange for the pricing, ordering, and tracking of purchased goods and services required for design projects.
- Oversee designs throughout the fabrication process until delivery to customer to ensure compliance with design specifications.
- Solve problems encountered during production inspections and initiates corrective action.
- Document all information and procedures related to a specific product for future reference.
- Generate reports and correspondence of various kinds including faxes, memos, inspection reports, bill of materials, etc.
- Work as part of a multi disciplinary team to establish priorities and schedules, execute design projects, and improve engineering efficiency.
- Visit mine sites to provide customer service around customer solutions, technical support, design modifications, and certification of products (drop and free fall tests).
- Take customers and potential customers on plant tours and/or product inspections.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Technical Qualifications:
· A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
· Registered as a Professional Engineer with the PEO.
· Have 3-5 years of Mechanical Engineering/Design experience in the design and analysis of mechanical systems.
· Proficiency in 3D CAD solid modeling (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
· Experience in design for manufacturability
· Strong material design and component selection skills
· Technical documentation and computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project)
