Description The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the development, coordination, analysis, definition, detailing, and optimization of motor, gearbox and gearmotor projects. Involved from concept through validation and product launch, ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance with technical standards, design and process criteria, and customer requirements. Product lines include both standard and custom designs with high engineering content. This role also supports customer orders from the proposal phase through design, development, manufacturing, testing, and field service/aftermarket activities. The engineer will be responsible for collaboration and sharing of best design practices within the WEG Group. Main Responsibilities Determine product specification, according to development needs, performing appropriate calculations in accordance with internal or external technical standards. Collaborate with engineers, customers, manufacturing and other personnel to implement new design configurations, resolve system faults, and provide technical information. Recommend design options or modifications to optimize performance, cost and value, while meeting customer needs. Plan, coordinate and execute engineering evaluations on prototypes and pilot batches. Conduct/analyze studies of adaptation and improvement of electric motor mechanical design, in order to follow/meet technological trends, customer specifications and compliance requirements. Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications. Assist in developing the structural design of products, using 3D modeling software. Statistical analysis for component tolerance stack-up requirements. Provide feedback to sales and customers on new product development and eventual field complaints, addressing problems root causes. Develop and improve components and materials applied in the production of products, through evaluation/tests, approving and/or proposing changes. Must be an enthusiastic self-starter, able to organize and pursue broad objectives, and have the ability to manage multiple/changing priorities. Demonstrated sense of urgency. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. This role includes production support for manufacturing on daily activities and eventual customers visits to evaluate product performance/application and travel to other WEG facilities. Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related discipline required. Electric motor experience in lieu of education may be considered. Minimum 2 years of engineering experience in mechanical design. Proven experience in project coordination. Experience in electric motors strongly desired. Proficiency in Solidworks 3D modeling/2D detailing, in a design/product development environment required. Familiarity with business software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project). Demonstrated understanding of the design/manufacturing for plastic and aluminum die casted parts, additive manufacturing/rapid prototyping, bearing and shafts, or similar components required. Understanding of resistance of materials, metal hardening, surface finishes, machining processes essential. Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on product quality. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing both internally & with customers Mechanical print reading and GD&T knowledge required. Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification and experience desired, but not required. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required. Must be able to frequently sit and/or stand for long periods of time. Flexibility to eventual travel (domestic and international) to customers, conferences, suppliers.
