JOB DESCRIPTION

Join a dynamic engineering consulting firm as a Mechanical Engineering Lead, where you will play a crucial role in mentoring Engineers-in-Training (EITs) and bridging the gap between Subject Matter Experts. Your primary focus will be on piping work for renowned clients, providing leadership and technical expertise. You will be responsible for sizing pumps, actively engaging with clients to understand their scope, and effectively distributing tasks across disciplines.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • 15+ years of experience as a mechanical engineer.
  • 5 years in a lead position.
  • P.Eng designation.
  • EPC background.
  • Mechanical generalist with experience in designing piping, facility projects, pumps, compressor stations, tank farms, pressure vessels, and stress engineering.
  • Familiarity with CSA Z662, ASME B31.3, API 650, API 610, PIDs, valves, skids, vessels, rotating equipment, and stress analysis.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous field experience in an operating facility or construction is an asset.
  • Experience with rotating equipment or HVAC is considered an asset.
  • Experience in oilsands MOC projects would be an asset.
  • Experience with pipeline engineering considered an asset.
  • Good communication and leadership skills to train EITs.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and understanding of client needs.
  • Competency with Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Experience with Autopipe, Ceasar II, NozzlePro, Abacus, AFT Impulse, Bentley Hammer, SPS is an asset.
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members, fostering growth, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Oversee project execution and resource coordination, ensuring alignment with strategic goals, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Act as a cross-functional liaison, driving effective communication between engineering, project management, and client stakeholders.
  • Interface with the project team and client as the Mechanical Lead to complete DBM, FEED, and Detailed Engineering deliverables.
  • Prepare basic design and engineering reports.
  • Familiarity with applicable industry codes and standards such as CSA Z662, ASME B31.3, API 650, API 610, etc.
  • Prepare and manage material take-offs and requisition packages, technical evaluations, and vendor document reviews and approvals.
  • Provide direction to piping designers for pipe specifications, pipe routing, and equipment layouts.
  • Prepare man-hour estimates for project scopes and change-orders for piping/mechanical disciplines.
  • Provide mechanical input to PIDs for valves, skids, vessels, rotating equipment, SP items, etc.
  • Prepare Construction/Engineering Work Packages (CWPs, EWPs) and associated evaluations.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
