The Mechanical Engineering Manager role is based in our GTA office. You are a trained professional engineer, passionate about improving existing mechanical building services. You are a highly motivated team player who thinks outside the box and has a drive to mentor and lead junior and intermediate engineers, designers and project managers.

• Ensure the proper execution of all mechanical projects.
• Participate in business development initiatives to help grow the revenue for mechanical department.
• Help create engineering quality control processes (SOP’s) by developing best practice.
• Signing Engineering Duties.
• Lead a team of engineers, designers and drafters to prepare drawings, specifications and reports necessary to deliver assigned projects.
• Responsible for the design execution of the mechanical department.
• Complete quality checks and technical reviews on drawings and specifications prepared by team members.
• Stamp design engineering drawings and documents where required.
• Responsible for ensuring designs follow the requirements of municipal or provincial building codes and other applicable standards.
• Check layouts and services for continuity; develop various mechanical systems layouts in coordination with the structural, architectural, and electrical components of a building.
• Review layouts and design of mechanical building systems such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning, fire protection systems, plumbing and draining systems, and specialized plumbing systems (natural gas, fuel oil, medical gas, etc.) using computer-assisted design/drafting programs.
• Review calculations to size equipment and prepare equipment schedules that are project specific. Coordinate with necessary project consultants to review equipment.
• Liaise with all project consultants and work with multi-discipline teams; coordinate design requirements with all disciplines and supervise drawings between other disciplines; check layouts of mechanical services for interferences with other components of the building such as structure, ceilings, etc.
• Review mechanical designs prepared in CAD to ensure they adhere to company CAD standards.
• Liaise with suppliers and/or manufacturers for design support, equipment, and component selection.
• Participate in Technical Standards internal committees to help develop and improve engineering standards and specifications.
• Provide technical oversight for reports and audits.
• Provide senior leadership guidance and evaluate existing mechanical systems at job sites.

What You’ll Bring To TCG:

• Minimum 8 years of consulting engineering experience with a strong technical background in mechanical design, associated with building engineering and facilities system upgrades or equipment replacement.
• Experience with preparing feasibility reports, mechanical calculations.
• Experience with managing a team of engineers, PM’s, designers, CAD technicians etc.
• Experience with managing project financials (asset to have), using an ERP system (i.e. Deltek Ajera or similar)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Registered as a Professional Engineer in Ontario. Familiarity with ASHRA, OBC, NFPA, and other industry standards and codes
• Proficient in the use of computers for making engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and report writing. Competent with Microsoft office package.
• P.Eng. Designation in Ontario is required.
• Good working knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection Systems.
• Knowledge and understanding of the National Building Code of Canada and the Ontario Building Code.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a drive and ability to collaborate and problem solve as part of a team.
• Ability to utilize both verbal and written forms of communication to effectively communicate internally with colleagues as well as externally with clients.
• Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects working in a fast-paced environment to meet project deadlines.
• Must be proficient in AutoCAD and MS Office Applications.
• Ability to travel to/from client sites (valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for travel is a must)
