Job description
At Edinburgh Napier University’s School of Computing, Engineering & the Built Environment, we’re building the future, creating an impact, and making a difference.
The way we work as a school is intrinsically linked with industry, to ensure our world-leading research and teaching has an impact in all areas of life.
The School utilises a team of technicians to support its workshops, laboratories and research activities and as such, we currently have a vacancy for a Mechanical Engineering Technician to support practical classes in our largest Engineering teaching Laboratory, as well as support our Fluid Dynamics and Solar Research Labs.
As Mechanical Engineering Technician, you will have the opportunity to use your practical and theoretical Mechanical Engineering knowledge to support practical classes in our Engineering Teaching Laboratory and take responsibility for the maintenance of specialised equipment, inventories, and resource purchasing to facilitate activities within the laboratory.
Your knowledge and experience of working with electronics, electrics, motors, pumps, valves, pipe fitting, plumbing, data loggers, and general fluid mechanics equipment will be put to good use, as you work with academic staff to provide support to students undertaking practical undergraduate project work, and other technical staff as required, to give the best teaching and student experience possible.
This is not just a practical role, your analytical skills will also serve you well as you provide advice and technical support in liaison with academic supervisors, discuss data analysis and results with students and supervisors, determining appropriate future testing and analysis – a chance to pass on valuable problem solving techniques to our students and be a part of supporting the next generation of skilled workers coming into the discipline.
As well as this, the role will provide you with excellent work/life balance (with weekday – office hour working), annual pay reviews and generous annual leave and pension entitlement.
If you have the practical knowledge/experience, good communication skills and the desire to be part of a team that values high standards, expert knowledge and collaborative working, then we would love to hear from you.
