About Stark Food Systems
Stark Food Systems provides equipment and engineering services for food manufacturing businesses. Our services include the integration of food-processing systems, equipment upgrades, maintenance projects and the supply of machinery and spare parts. We have operational facilities in NSW and VIC and are hiring staff for both locations.
Our work requires equipment to operate reliably while meeting production needs and allowing effective cleaning and maintenance. We value practical technical skills, careful workmanship and clear communication with clients and project teams.
The Opportunity
We are hiring Mechanical Engineering Technicians for our operational facilities in NSW and VIC to support work on food-processing equipment and installations. Working under the technical direction of Mechanical Engineers and Engineering Technologists, you will assist with equipment development, assembly, installation, testing and maintenance.
The role combines hands-on work with measurement, analysis and technical documentation. You will help identify equipment faults, verify mechanical performance and support the integration of new or modified equipment into client production facilities.
What You Will Be Responsible For
i. Assisting engineers and engineering technologists with the development and modification of mechanical equipment for food-processing systems, considering production requirements, cleaning access and maintainability.
ii. Preparing technical sketches, component details and installation layouts under engineering direction, and interpreting approved drawings and manufacturer specifications for project work.
iii. Selecting suitable tools, measuring instruments and mechanical components for assembly, installation and testing, checking compatibility with the approved equipment specifications.
iv. Assembling and installing new or modified mechanical assemblies and components, including applicable drive mechanisms and hydraulic systems, and checking alignment, fit and fastening.
v. Assisting with the mechanical integration of equipment into existing production lines, checking interfaces, clearances and access before installation and commissioning.
vi. Estimating component quantities, material costs and machine requirements for installations, upgrades and repairs, and preparing parts lists to support procurement.
vii. Conducting workshop and on-site mechanical tests under approved procedures, checking operation, alignment and performance against specified requirements.
viii. Collecting and analysing test and operating data, carrying out technical calculations and preparing diagrams and reports to support engineering review and fault diagnosis.
ix. Investigating mechanical faults and recurring equipment problems, documenting findings and recommending corrective action for review by the responsible engineer or technical lead.
x. Organising equipment inspections and planned maintenance activities, coordinating approved work with fitters and other personnel to reduce disruption to client production.
xi. Checking completed assemblies and installations against drawings, tolerances, project specifications and relevant requirements, documenting deviations and verifying approved corrections.
xii. Maintaining test results, inspection records and equipment documentation, and following site isolation, guarding, hygiene and safe working procedures during technical work.
Skills and Professional Competencies
i. Sound understanding of mechanical systems, engineering drawings, component selection and installation methods.
ii. Ability to conduct mechanical tests, use measuring equipment and interpret operating data accurately.
iii. Practical fault-finding skills and the ability to explain findings through clear technical records.
iv. Ability to prepare sketches, calculations, parts lists and technical reports using suitable software and documentation tools.
v. Awareness of hygiene, cleaning access and contamination risks when working on food-processing equipment.
vi. Good organisational skills and the ability to coordinate technical work around project and production schedules.
vii. Clear communication and a collaborative approach to working with engineers, trades personnel, suppliers and clients.
What We Look For
You are methodical, practical and comfortable moving between hands-on mechanical work and technical analysis. You check measurements carefully, follow approved specifications and raise issues before they affect equipment performance or safety.
Experience with food-processing machinery, production equipment or mechanical installation projects will be well regarded. You should be willing to work at project and client sites across NSW and VIC as required.
Qualifications and Experience
i. An AQF Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, or at least three years of relevant experience in place of the formal qualification.
ii. Two to three years of relevant mechanical engineering technician experience is preferred.
iii. Experience in mechanical testing, assembly, installation, maintenance and technical documentation will be well regarded.
Why Join Stark Food Systems
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to equipment installations, upgrades and maintenance projects in food manufacturing. You will work with technical and project teams to improve equipment reliability and help clients integrate machinery into their operations.
Preference will be given to Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents.
