SkillQuest Solutions are seeking an experienced and skilled Mechanical Engineer on behalf of our client, located in Salisbury North, South Australia. Salary - $75,000 - $90,000 plus superannuation per annum

THE ROLE:

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment, production systems and engineered building product solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

· Design, develop and improve mechanical and electromechanical components, machinery and production systems to enhance manufacturing efficiency, reliability and product quality.

· Research, investigate and evaluate engineering requirements for new equipment, manufacturing processes and production technologies to support continuous improvement initiatives.

· Conduct engineering inspections, technical assessments and performance evaluations of plant machinery, including alignment verification, calibration assessments and operational analysis to maintain optimum equipment performance.

· Analyse maintenance records and equipment performance data to develop preventive and predictive maintenance strategies that minimise equipment downtime and maximise plant reliability.

· Investigate equipment failures, recurring faults and production issues by conducting engineering analysis and root-cause investigations, and implement long-term engineering solutions.

· Prepare engineering designs, technical specifications, calculations, reports and documentation for mechanical equipment modifications, process improvements and engineering projects.

· Plan, coordinate and oversee the installation, commissioning, testing, validation and modification of plant equipment and mechanical systems to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and operational requirements.

· Evaluate supplier proposals, technical specifications and engineering documentation to assess equipment suitability, engineering compliance and cost-effectiveness prior to implementation.

· Monitor manufacturing operations and identify opportunities to improve machinery performance, workflow layouts, material handling systems and production processes to optimise productivity and reduce waste.

· Develop and implement mechanical process improvements and automation solutions, including PLC-controlled systems, sensors and drive systems, to improve equipment performance and reduce manual intervention.

· Establish and maintain engineering maintenance standards, inspection schedules, maintenance records and technical documentation in accordance with engineering best practices and company procedures.

· Ensure all engineering activities comply with Occupational Health and Safety legislation, Australian Standards, OEM recommendations and company quality requirements.

· Coordinate engineering resources, contractors, suppliers and spare parts to support maintenance activities, engineering projects and plant reliability objectives.

· Prepare engineering calculations, technical reports, cost analyses and project documentation to support engineering decisions, equipment upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.

· Provide technical guidance and engineering support to production and maintenance personnel while monitoring auxiliary plant equipment, including compressed air systems, to improve operational reliability, energy efficiency and overall plant performance.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

· Relevant qualification, such as a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or closely related field) or higher

· Minimum of 1 year (preferably more) proven experience working as a Mechanical Engineer in a manufacturing, product development or production engineering environment.

· Experience in the design, development and optimisation of mechanical systems, components and manufacturing processes.

· Demonstrated ability to analyse engineering problems, identify root causes and develop practical and effective solutions.

· Experience preparing and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, technical documentation and engineering reports.

· Knowledge of manufacturing processes, production systems, materials and quality assurance principles.

· Experience conducting product testing, performance evaluations and engineering investigations.

· Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, engineering principles, workplace health and safety requirements and quality management systems.

· Strong analytical, problem-solving and project coordination skills.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with production teams, supplier and other stakeholders.

· Proficiency in engineering design and analysis software, including CAD applications and Microsoft Office Suite.

· Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting project deadlines.

Due to continued growth, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our team for an immediate start. This role offers a technically diverse environment working across complex mechanical and electromechanical systems within the vertical transport industry.

Key Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineering Technician with VTS, you will:

· Apply engineering principles to the installation, modification, testing, and optimisation of mechanical and electromechanical systems.

· Prepare, interpret, and update CAD drawings, layouts, and technical documentation for lift and escalator components and system modifications.

· Conduct system diagnostics, fault finding, and root cause analysis across mechanical and control systems.

· Carry out installation, commissioning, and maintenance of lift and escalator systems in accordance with technical specifications and project requirements.

· Perform testing, calibration, and performance verification to ensure systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.

· Undertake inspections, condition assessments, and technical evaluations of mechanical components and assemblies.

· Analyse system performance and recommend improvements, upgrades, or modifications to enhance operational efficiency and reliability.

· Ensure all work complies with relevant Australian Standards, codes, and workplace health and safety requirements.

· Prepare detailed service reports, test records, and technical documentation to support compliance and performance tracking.

· Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to coordinate installations and resolve technical issues.

· Provide technical guidance on installation methods, system operation, and maintenance procedures.

· Contribute to continuous improvement through evaluation of equipment performance, materials, and emerging technologies.

Qualifications and Skills

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2–3 years of relevant experience in mechanical systems installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
  • Experience within lifts, escalators, or similar electromechanical environments is highly regarded.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems with exposure to electrical and control integration.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and fault-finding techniques.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, automation systems, and control interfaces.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
