Description

THE OPPORTUNITY:

Coanda is adding a Mechanical Engineering Technologist to our Lab Services team based in Edmonton, AB.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a lab or industrial environment.
  • Must be eligible for ASET membership.
  • Experience with specification, installation and operation of piping and process equipment.
  • Ability to working safely in a lab environment and attention to details.
  • Data analysis experience using Excel, Matlab and/or Origin is an asset.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical systems, instrumentation and wiring, power tools etc.
  • Experience with project planning / coordination / management.
  • Experience with the following asset:
  • Process equipment (e.g. meters, pumps, compressors, valves), pumps and pumping systems (gas and liquid), fabrication and machining, industrial pipe and tube fitting, high pressure systems & gas cylinders.
  • Design, fabrication, and assembly of custom components and assemblies.
  • Safety operations, HAZOP, inspections.
  • Photography, lighting, and camera set-up experience.
  • Data acquisition, control, and instrumentation.
  • Analytical instrumentation, analytical and chemical lab techniques.
  • Laboratory/Industrial environment experience.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Maintaining a safe, organized and efficient lab space and operations.
  • Working closely with project managers and research scientists to execute projects accurately and on time, including aspects of project coordination and planning.
  • Specification, setup, operation, calibration, and maintenance of:
  • Experimental setups and related lab infrastructure
  • Process equipment such as meters, pumps, compressors, valves
  • Analytical and measurement equipment
  • Assisting engineers with experimental and equipment design.
  • Conducting accurate data collection and analysis.
  • Compiling and maintaining well-organized data reporting (lab books, photos, etc.)
  • Design, fabrication and machining of custom parts and fixtures related to experimental setups.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.
