Description

We are seeking an experienced person to join our on-site engineering team as a Mechanical Estates Officer, reporting to the Estates Operations Manager, who will be an active member of the Estates team responsible for carrying out, leading, and supervising the safe installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of the Trust’s plant, equipment and buildings.
The post holder will be required to work under pressure in emergency situations where the failure to act promptly or safely may result in serious injury, damage or loss of life. Previous NHS experience is not essential although would be useful, full supplementary training will be provided.
Please note: This role includes the responsibility of being a member of the on-call team supporting the Trust out of hours.
Knowledge, Training & Experience - The post holder will be responsible for carrying out, supervising, and leading others in the safe installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of the Trust’s plant, equipment and buildings and this role will require significant training and experience in commercial mechanical building services supporting large, complex systems such as heating, hot and cold water, ventilation and air conditioning, passenger lifts and lifting equipment, internal and external drainage, etc. and ideally you will have an understanding and experience of steam operated plant and equipment.
You will require an expert understanding of a range of work procedures and practices, the majority of which are non-routine and which require intermediate level theoretical knowledge acquired through formal training to NVQ 5, or equivalent, with at least 5 years of relevant working experience.

As well as the full range of duties associated with the post holder’s core skills, i.e., leadership, technical management, operational delivery, etc., the role often requires specialisation and a multi skilled approach with team members having responsibilities in nominated specialist Estates roles, such as Authorised Person for Water, Ventilation, Work At Height, Confined Space, Pressure Systems, or Medical Gases. This role may also be required for supporting specific projects or tasks, such as the coaching, training, or development of others.
The post holder will have, or be required to achieve, qualifications in management equivalent to Institute of Learning and Management Level 4, safety management equivalent to NEBOSH National General Certificate, and will be encouraged to seek membership of an appropriate industry or trade body such as IET, CIBSE, IHEEM
