JOB SUMMARY:

VIS Mechanical is seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join our growing team. This role requires cost analysis, estimation skills for mechanical systems, and client-oriented communication, critical to supporting project success across commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent; or diploma with strong estimating background.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of mechanical estimating experience (senior/complex projects preferred).
  • Proficient in blueprint reading for mechanical systems and HVAC.
  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., CostX, PlanSwift, Excel) and CAD systems (e.g., Autodesk).
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a client‑focused mindset.

PREFERRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Exposure to mechanical & electrical scope or MEP estimating.
  • Experience with tendering and bid management tools.
  • Knowledge of local British Columbia building codes and standards.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or quality management systems.
  • Proven capacity for value engineering and constructability assessment.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare thorough cost estimates for mechanical construction projects, including labour, materials, equipment, and sub‑contractor services.
  • Execute accurate quantity takeoffs from blueprints and specifications.
  • Develop and manage tender packages and participate in bid evaluation and supplier negotiations.
  • Monitor and report on cost forecasts, expenditures, and project budgets throughout project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, clients, and subcontractors to facilitate value engineering and constructability reviews.
  • Support project scheduling, change‑order assessment, and maintain supplier/subcontractor databases.
  • Assist in contract negotiation and facilitate pre‑qualification submissions.
