This Position reports to:

ABB Australia is currently seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter / Fitter Turner to join our workshop team. The candidate will be able to demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude and be proficient in essential Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you will work with precision mechanical equipment and tools to service motors, generators, and other rotating machinery, following ABB’s processes, quality standards, and safety procedures. You will also be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service and collaborating closely with other ABB teams.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Perform the disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of large rotating electrical machines (such as motors and generators) in accordance with ABB standards.
  • Operate lathes, milling machines, and other workshop equipment to repair or fabricate mechanical components to exact tolerances.
  • Conduct accurate fitting and alignment of parts including bearings, shafts, couplings, coils and seals. Ability to perform minor welding or fabrication tasks to support fitting work.
  • Operate lathes, milling machines, and other workshop equipment to repair or fabricate mechanical components to exact tolerances. Ability to plan jobs to co-ordinate repair activities and be organized with tools and work methods.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE

  • Strong mechanical aptitude, proving your ability to tackle technical challenges with ease.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in the industry
  • Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitting and Turning or Mechanical Fitter).
  • Skilled in the disassembly, inspection, repair, and reassembly of rotating equipment such as motors.
  • Strong diagnostic skills and mechanical reasoning to identify faults and propose effective solutions
  • Competent in completing job cards, service reports, and using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) for job tracking and communication.
