N J Slee Welding is a well established fabrication and engineering company, delivering projects across the Defence, Oil & Gas and Construction sectors. With workshops in Dumbarton and Garelochhead, and contracts spanning across Scotland, we pride ourselves on delivering practical, safe, and reliable solutions to our clients.
We are now looking to expand our team with an experienced Mechanical Fitter/Fabricator to support both workshop and site-based operations.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Proven background in fitting/fabrication within industrial, petrochemical, or construction environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Competence with fabrication equipment, power tools and hand tools.
  • Basic Welding skills with MIG and Stick
  • Pipework fitting and mechanical assembly experience advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving and self-motivation – able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility for occassional travel across Scotland for site-based work.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Recognised apprenticeship (desirable) or equivalent experience in fabrication/mechanical fitting.
  • Valid trade qualifications (welding/fabrication/mechanical fitting) desirable.
  • CSCS desirable but we can assist with achieving this
    Due to the nature of our Defence-related projects, candidates must be UK nationals and capable of obtaining SC security clearance.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanical Fitter/Fabricator to join our team. This role offers a wide variety of work, both in the workshop and on site, supporting customers with fabrication, installation, and mechanical services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Fabricating and fitting steelwork, pipework, mechanical components/assemblies, etc.
  • Carrying out cutting, drilling, burning, grinding, and material preparation.
  • Tacking and basic welding where required (coded welders carry out specialist works).
  • Installing fabricated assemblies, mechanical systems, and pipework on customer sites.
  • Reading and working from fabrication/engineering drawings to produce high-quality work.
  • Using fabrication tools and workshop machinery (e.g., saws, steelworker, lathes, milling machines, etc).
  • Assisting with planned and reactive maintenance and repairs for petrochemical and O&G customers.
  • Maintaining a strong focus on health & safety and quality standards at all times.
