Description
Mechanical Fitter – Gyratory Crusher Job Purpose To carry out mechanical maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on primary gyratory crushers to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient crushing operations. The role ensures optimal equipment performance, reduced downtime, and compliance with OEM and site maintenance standards. Key Responsibilities Preventive & Routine Maintenance Perform daily checks on oil temperature, pressure, lubrication flow, leaks, and unusual vibrations or noises. Conduct weekly inspections on mantle and concave wear, spider bushing clearance, and overall chamber condition. Maintain critical tolerances such as eccentric bushing clearances to prevent mechanical instability and premature failures. Monitor lubrication system performance using TIMS or equivalent instrumentation where applicable. Mechanical Repairs & Troubleshooting Diagnose and repair faults involving main shafts, eccentric assemblies, spider bearings, bushings, hydraulic systems, and associated components. Identify lubrication film breakdown, dimensional errors, and wear patterns contributing to component degradation. Support top-service maintenance including safe removal and installation of bushings, piston assemblies, and eccentric components. Service & repairs to apron feeder, conveyors, vibrating feeders etc. Installation, Commissioning & Overhauls Assist with proper installation alignment, including main shaft perpendicular alignment and foundation integrity verification. Commission lubrication systems by flushing, leak testing, and verifying oil quality and line integrity before start‑up. Perform mantle and concave change-outs in accordance with OEM safety and wear auditing procedures. Safety, Compliance & Reporting Adhere to lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and site safety requirements during maintenance activities. Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance tasks, root-cause analyses, equipment history, and service logs. Contribute to continuous improvement in reliability and reduced OPEX through proactive maintenance aligned with TS/TSUV (tramp steel unbalanced vibration) design efficiencies. Skills & Competencies Technical Competencies Proficiency in maintaining: Hydraulic systems (e.g., Metso Hydroset). Lubrication systems and oil quality control. Wear components and metallurgy, including Mn18Cr2 and Mn22Cr2 liners. Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, tolerances, and equipment manuals. Couplings and Alignment (Laser advantageous) Operational Competencies Skilled in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA). Ability to assess crusher chamber performance and wear patterns. Familiarity with digital monitoring platforms (e.g., My Sandvik, TIMS sensors). Qualifications & Experience Trade-tested Mechanical Fitter or Millwright (or equivalent). 3–5 years experience working with primary gyratory crushers or similar heavy mechanical mining equipment. Experience with OEM systems such as Metso TS/TSUV gyratory crushers, or similar.
