Our client is a key player in the agricultural production sector. They are looking to hire a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer – Agro-Processing Plant in Ogun State. Job Summary Ensure continuous and reliable operation of all mechanical systems by executing preventive maintenance, responding rapidly to breakdowns, and improving equipment reliability. The role is focused on protecting production uptime and output continuity. Core Outcomes • Maintain at least 95% equipment uptime across production lines • Ensure rapid restoration of equipment after breakdowns • Execute preventive maintenance schedules consistently • Reduce repeat failures through root cause correction • Maintain safe and compliant operation of all systems Key Responsibilities Preventive and Corrective Maintenance • Execute preventive maintenance across all mechanical systems • Maintain equipment such as pulverizers, dryers, mills, conveyors, packaging machines, pumps, and boilers • Perform corrective maintenance and emergency repairs • Ensure breakdown fixes are permanent, not temporary Breakdown Diagnosis and Root Cause Resolution • Diagnose mechanical faults under production pressure • Identify root causes of repeated failures • Implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence • Document failure trends and recommend improvements Installation and Commissioning • Supervise installation and alignment of equipment • Ensure proper commissioning before handover • Verify operational readiness and mechanical integrity Preventive Maintenance System Execution • Follow daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance schedules • Ensure compliance with maintenance plans • Report missed or delayed maintenance • Suggest improvements to maintenance schedules Spare Parts and Equipment Reliability • Monitor spare parts usage and failure trends • Work with procurement to ensure availability of critical parts • Recommend stocking priorities • Reduce downtime caused by parts unavailability Cross-Functional Collaboration • Work with production teams on machine uptime • Collaborate with electrical engineers on system issues • Support quality teams on hygiene and contamination risks • Ensure smooth coordination during breakdowns Health, Safety and Compliance • Enforce safe use of tools and machinery • Ensure compliance with safety standards • Prevent unsafe equipment from returning to operation • Maintain safe working conditions Documentation and Reporting • Maintain maintenance logs including breakdowns, repairs, and parts replaced • Track downtime duration and causes • Ensure traceability of maintenance activities • Support audit readiness Operator Training and Support • Train operators on basic equipment care and cleaning • Support early fault detection • Promote safe equipment use • Reduce operator-related breakdowns Requirements • HND or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field • 3–5 years hands-on experience in FMCG, agro-processing, or manufacturing • Experience working in a continuous production environment Technical Competence • Rotating equipment (motors, shafts, bearings) • Conveyors and transmission systems • Pumps and fluid systems • Industrial dryers and processing equipment • Mechanical fault diagnosis in live production environments • Preventive maintenance execution Core Skills • Strong troubleshooting ability • Ability to work under pressure • Mechanical drawing interpretation • Structured maintenance discipline • Basic fabrication skills Behavioral Profile • Hands-on and practical approach • Calm under pressure during breakdowns • High ownership of equipment performance • Strong discipline and reliability • Effective communication with production teams Role Expectation • Ensure production equipment runs continuously • Fix breakdowns quickly and permanently • Prevent failures proactively • Maintain production continuity at all times
