Description
Essity Australasia is a leading consumer care and hygiene solutions company, manufacturing and marketing a number of market leading brands including Sorbent, Purex, Handee Ultra, Libra, Tork and TENA. Essity’s purpose is to make it easier for hygiene, health and well-being to be part of everyday life. Join Essity as we lead the way in sustainable manufacturing and digital engineering. Based at our Kawerau site — home to a diverse team and advanced paper production technology — this role is a chance to shape the future of our operations and contribute to industry‑leading decarbonisation projects. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences. About the Role: As a Mechanical Design Engineer at Essity Kawerau, you’ll use your CAD and 3D modelling skills to develop smart, practical mechanical designs that improve plant performance and support major sustainability initiatives — including our transition from natural‑gas‑fired drying to geothermal steam. Working with point‑cloud models and modern digital tools, you’ll help deliver upgrades, resolve layout challenges, and keep our engineering data accurate and accessible across the site. This is a hands‑on, design‑focused role where your work has real impact — helping shape safer, cleaner, more efficient operations across one of New Zealand’s most established and advanced manufacturing sites. What You Will Do: Produce mechanical designs, models, fabrication drawings, and installation documentation. Integrate new equipment and structures into existing layouts using 3D point‑cloud data and BIM modelling. Maintain accurate CAD drawings, 3D models, P&IDs, and associated engineering documentation. Manage drawing registers, revision control, and CAD standards to ensure accurate, accessible asset information. Embed safe design practices and contribute to hazard and risk management processes. Collaborate on concepts, design reviews, clash detection, and maintainability improvements. Provide practical mechanical engineering support to operations and maintenance teams. Lead in‑house mechanical design jobs, producing fast, practical CAD solutions for site upgrades and improvements. Coordinate and quality‑check vendor and contractor deliverables, ensuring alignment with the Management of Change process. Contribute to site‑wide digital engineering improvements and decarbonisation initiatives. Who You Are: You’re a collaborative mechanical engineer who enjoys solving real‑world problems and turning ideas into fit‑for‑purpose solutions. You value teamwork, continuous learning, and inclusive ways of working. You will bring: A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent practical experience. CAD design and drafting experience (AutoCAD preferred). 3D modelling capability (e.g., Inventor, SolidWorks, or Revit). Experience in mechanical design, fabrication detailing, and engineering problem‑solving. Familiarity with P&IDs and technical documentation. The ability to prioritise, organise, and communicate clearly with different audiences (written, verbal, and visual). Experience in industrial or manufacturing environments. It’s great (but not essential) if you also have: Exposure to pulp and paper environments. Experience with 3D point‑cloud data. Understanding of electrical and control system drawings. Project management experience. If you don’t meet every point but feel you can add value, we’d still love to hear from you. What We Offer Our purpose, Breaking Barriers to Well-Being, provides meaning to everything we do. Join us to improve well-being for people and drive positive change for society and the environment. At Essity, you'll feel valued, empowered to grow, and challenged to achieve business results in a collaborative and open atmosphere.
