Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Project Engineer / Technologist to join our team. Based at our Strathnaver location, this full-time position plays a key role in planning, coordinating, and supporting capital and infrastructure improvement projects across multiple sites.
Working cross-functionally with mill operations teams, department leads, and external partners including consultants, equipment providers, and construction firms, the Mechanical Project Engineer / Technologist will support projects from initial concept and feasibility through to execution, commissioning, and close-out.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with managers and mill sites to identify, scope, and prioritize infrastructure and capital improvement projects
  • Maintain a live, prioritized corporate project list, and ensure alignment with operational needs and business objectives
  • Develop and track project execution schedules and milestones
  • Work with preferred vendors, consultants, equipment providers, and contractors to prepare proposals and detailed scopes of work
  • Prepare project rationales and present to internal stakeholders for review and approval
  • Establish project cost control systems to track equipment, materials, labour, subcontractors, and other expenses
  • Set work priorities, delegate tasks to appropriate site-based personnel or contractors, and ensure timelines are met
  • Manage and organize all project drawings, specifications, and documentation using SolidWorks PDM and Microsoft SharePoint
  • Assist in the preparation of compliance documentation, and ensure new equipment or systems are reflected in Safe Operating Procedures
  • Coordinate with site OH&S Officers and leadership to ensure projects meet internal safety protocols and regulatory standards
  • Review and support the approval of interdisciplinary vendor drawings and construction packages
  • Procure and schedule supplementary materials, equipment, and resources required for project execution
  • Communicate relevant project information to teams and affected stakeholders
  • Participate in cross-site initiatives and support additional duties as needed

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology (or equivalent technical experience)
  • Previous experience working on capital or infrastructure projects in an industrial or manufacturing setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Visio, Outlook, SharePoint)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, SolidWorks CAD & PDM, and Enterprise Asset Management software
  • Experience with Creaform VXelements is considered an asset
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • High-level technical skills, with a willingness to learn and take initiative
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities
  • Team player with a collaborative approach and sound work ethic
  • Ability and willingness to travel interprovincially as required

This position offers a highly competitive starting salary in the $80,000 to $110,000 range, based on experience. It also includes a comprehensive benefits and pension package, along with rewarding opportunities to grow within an industry-leading company.
