Description The Mechanical Shop Technician is responsible for supporting shop operations through the maintenance, repair, fabrication, and assembly of mechanical equipment and components. This role is part time and requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced shop environment. Key Responsibilities Perform mechanical assembly, disassembly, repair, and maintenance of equipment, tools, and machinery Diagnose mechanical issues and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and work instructions Operate shop tools and equipment such as lathes, mills, drills, grinders, and hand tools Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure equipment reliability and uptime Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, parts used, and inspections completed Follow all safety procedures, OSHA guidelines, and company policies Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and supervisors to support production and shop goals Requirements High school diploma or equivalent (technical or vocational certification preferred) 5+ years of experience in a mechanical shop, manufacturing, or maintenance environment Strong understanding of mechanical systems, tools, and shop practices Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics Basic math skills and measurement proficiency Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Preferred Qualifications Trade school or technical training in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing disciplines Experience with CNC equipment, welding, hydraulics, or pneumatics Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices Forklift, hoist, or other equipment certifications Experience using CMMS or maintenance tracking systems Working Conditions Shop/manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and moving parts Required use of PPE including safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed footwear May require overtime, shift work, or weekend availability as needed
