We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Specialist with expertise in equipment performance and reliability programs to join our Optimization team. This role directly supports MEG Energy’s success by leveraging your knowledge and skills in mechanical equipment within our condition monitoring programs, including vibration monitoring, oil analysis, and thermography. As a Mechanical Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliable operation, development of maintenance programs, and continuous improvement of mechanical systems and equipment. Your technical expertise will enhance system performance, support maintenance activities, and drive operational excellence.
This is a Fly-In, Fly-Out camp-based position working on a 7x7 rotation (Tuesday - Tuesday), flying out of Calgary or Edmonton.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Demonstrating exceptional Safety Leadership in accordance with MEG Energy’s Health, Safety and Environment Programs, continuously building MEG’s strong safety culture internally and externally with vendors, service providers, and contractors.
- Develop fit-for-purpose strategies, plans, and details for MEG Energy’s production assets.
- Support Maintenance and Operations in identifying root cause problems and provide recommendations to improve equipment reliability and performance.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and providing solutions to resolve problems on facility equipment.
- Identifying reliability threats, opportunities and making recommendations for existing and future site equipment.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret vibration data, evaluate infrared images, review oil analysis reports, and provide actionable recommendations.
- Perform condition monitoring and analysis on plant machinery, ensuring that all issues are documented with a resolution and timely path forward.
- Maintain programs for predictive and condition-based maintenance, including Vibration Analysis, Infrared, and Oil Analysis.
- Maintain and manage the condition monitoring software and hardware.
- Provide inputs, direction, and guidance to Millwrights regarding lubrication activities and lube facility.
- Offer expertise and insights to minimize asset life-cycle costs while enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the preventive maintenance program.
- Enhance the performance and cost efficiency of predictive maintenance programs. Contribute to the development and implementation of procedures, policies and spare parts.
- Develop equipment condition indicators for specific failure modes.
- Provide support for routine work, startups and turnarounds activities.
- Provide technical support to projects, maintenance, operations & engineering.
- Build and maintain a network of internal and external contacts to strengthen collaboration and support professional growth.
- Lead or take part in incident investigations, 5-whys, causal analysis, cause mapping etc.
What you will bring to MEG:
- Red seal industrial mechanic - millwright with 10+ years of progressive work experience in maintenance roles in oil & gas or very large heavy industry facilities.
- Experience in Oil and Gas and Gas Turbine Cogeneration power production is considered an asset.
- Preference given to those with an ISO Category II Vibration Analyst Certification and Infrared Thermography Level I Certification.
- Demonstrated analytical and organizational skills with the ability to develop reliability strategies and plans, with the deliverable of presenting this information to a larger Optimization support team. A key part improving plant health.
- Understanding failures and equipment reliability challenges that affect reliable operations.
- Effective communicator with excellent ability to work in a team environment.
- Proven troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Strong leadership and team skills
- Proficient with CMMS (Maximo preferred), Microsoft applications.
- Must be physically fit for field work, which may include working in confined spaces, lifting up to 50 lbs and working outdoors in a cold environment
- Valid class 5 driver’s license is required.
