Miller Industries – Mechanical & Structural Engineering Manager - Fenton, Michigan   Position Summary Miller Industries is seeking an experienced Mechanical & Structural Engineering Manager to lead and grow a high-performing team of engineers supporting our mission-critical infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for technical leadership, people development, and execution excellence across a diverse portfolio that includes modular HVAC systems, hydronic plants, E-houses, generator enclosures, and other mission-critical engineered solutions. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineering leader who can balance strategic oversight with day-to-day problem solving, build strong teams, develop future leaders, and drive flawless execution from concept through commissioning.   Key Responsibilities Leadership & People Development * Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical and structural engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. * Build talent pipelines through hiring, onboarding, coaching, and succession planning. * Develop future technical and people leaders within the engineering organization. * Promote engineering best practices, design rigor, and a strong safety-first mindset. Technical & Program Leadership * Provide engineering direction and oversight for: * Modular HVAC systems * Hydronic and thermal plant systems * Electrical houses (E-houses) * Generator enclosures and outdoor rated enclosures * Custom mission-critical infrastructure solutions * Ensure designs meet performance, reliability, constructability, and lifecycle requirements. * Oversee compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., UL, ASME, NFPA, IBC), customer requirements, and internal design standards. * Support value engineering, cost optimization, and standardization initiatives without compromising quality or safety. Execution & Problem Solving * Drive flawless execution across engineering deliverables, schedules, and budgets. * Partner closely with Project Management, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure seamless execution from design through fabrication and delivery. * Lead root cause analysis and corrective action efforts for technical, quality, or execution challenges. * Remove roadblocks, escalate risks appropriately, and ensure timely resolution of complex engineering issues. Process & Continuous Improvement * Establish and improve engineering processes, documentation standards, and design review practices. * Champion lessons learned, standard work, and continuous improvement initiatives. * Support digital engineering tools, automation, and configuration management systems. Qualifications Required: * Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. * 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, including people management and technical leadership. * Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams. * Strong background in mechanical and structural design for industrial, modular, or mission-critical systems. * Proven ability to solve complex technical problems and make sound engineering decisions under schedule pressure. * Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Preferred: * Professional Engineer (PE) license. * Experience with UL-listed / UL-classified systems, including generator enclosures or E-houses. * Familiarity with manufacturing-oriented engineering environments and design for fabrication. * Experience supporting data centers, energy infrastructure, or other mission-critical applications.
